@@Faiith1964 the bars should have come across his body and almost touched the seat horn. With the hydraulic locks there was really no need for a seat belt. The manufacturer can argue that the seat contours acted as first restraint and the bars the second. Now Tyres bars stopped at his stomach not groin like they should have. They left a huge gap at least a foot or two. Enough that he could slip out when almost seven hundred pounds of pressure was forces against the restraint. What I can almost guaranteed happened was there was a double click locking system, Tyre clicked only once leaving the huge gap. Tyre was reported on saying there was play in the restraints. So when the ride went up slowly he was fine. But then it tilted forward dropping him at a high rate of speed on top of those lose restraints. The restraints had just enough play in them that it gave him enough room to slip down and out especially since he was not in the seat contours. Once he exited the restraints went to a proper locking position. This though we won’t know because the ride operators (against all ways I have been trained) opened the ride restraints leaving it impossible to know the position of Tyres restraint upon landing. The ride operator no matter how mad the riders got called a supervisor and had them manually release riders. Calling the supervisor would have given the park time to photograph the seats before release.

And with that lady falling off the ride and dying a few years back, I was more than okay with that. I will most certainly take embarrassment over death any day. All they had to do was be honest with him. As a ride operator, safety should be their absolute #1 concern, period. As a theme park and roller coaster enthusiast, I've been on many drop-tower rides in my life. Every one of them had a safety latch on the harness as a failsafe to prevent riders from falling out of their seats. Why this drop-tower didn't have one is beyond me. Yes, the ride operators should have not let Tyre Sampson ride this attraction; but the manufacturer is equally, if not more, at fault for building and manufacturing a ride with such safety negligence.

Well said Blacktron - many are quickly judging the young employees, but the manufacturer needs to be held accountable for this deadly design flaw and the lack of a seatbelt. The ride should never be able to go up with a harness at that angle. The computer system allowed this yet at that angle people can slip out. Deadly design flaw. Even when I’ve gone to other theme parks like SeaWorld Universal Studios and Bush Gardens. The people in those theme parks always make double sure. That you are safely secure. I had to rewatch the video several times. And you could clearly see that his harness wasn’t fully secure. Even though the guy in the video said he checked him. It’s very clear that he didn’t check him well enough. It just makes me very sad knowing that he came to Orlando to have fun. And he ended up losing his life. They’re using the terms “down and locked” very loosely. The bottom of the over shoulder restraints was resting on top of his belly. Up high. Leaving a huge gap where his hips could get thrown out. They need to be clear when they say it was down and locked, because that never happened in a way to where it would be considered down and locked for useful purposes. They’re playing with words to keep their asses clear on that lawsuit. But they messed up. The evidence is there.

Yes, it does. He wasn't ejected though; he literally slipped through the space caused by the harness being too high. When the ride reaches the top, it tilts forward. Every ride of this type should have a buckle. Why was there no buckle between the seat and the harness? With that little feature, operations would have known he was too big because the buckle would not have engaged when the shoulder harness did not home down all the way. RIP Tyre. I hope many many new regulations come out of this tragedy.

The attendants KNEW he was too big for the ride. According to the police report, he was told he couldn’t ride but kept coming back multiple times with his friends begging (and yelling about it, apparently) to ride. The attendant finally let him ride despite knowing it was risky because of his size. So I’m shocked they didn’t triple check his shoulder harness, unless they were poorly trained and thought it was locked enough. The other employees (who aren’t fired for this incident) need training and to be empowered to throw people out of the park. He was just a kid being a kid, but plenty of adults throw tantrums when they don’t get what they want these days too. Employees shouldn’t be pressured to keep the customer happy at all times when sometimes they have to be told no for safety reasons. And if they keep it up they can be kicked out of the park altogether, but safe and alive. If you yourself or your child is overweight or obese you need to be extra careful about getting on rides. If you’re told you’re too big, while embarrassing, accept it and stay safe. I feel awful for the family and for him. The best we can do as a society is learn from the accident and prevent it from happening.

There is a reason his harness didn't come all the way down. It's because of his shoulders. That's as far as it would have gone down. He even looks partially slouched off his seat. They should have not let him on the ride, period, not necessarily due to weight, but mass + height. Staff did not manually check harnesses or ignored otherwise they would have easily seen this. I'm confused as to why the patrons weren't manually checked. Every ride I've been on at other theme parks, were always checked manually by pulling on the harness and making sure you were buckled in.

I worked at Great America Theme Park in the bay area back in the 2004. I went to the interview high and drunk. I never expected to get hired I was just applying with a friend of mine who had worked there the previous year. We travled from Hayward to Santa Clara using public transportation so we smoked and drank on the way there. They hired me on the spot My friend would later get fired because he didn’t properly check a riders seat harness before the ride started. Im Just saying, dont expect “professionals” when you go to a theme park.

@@exxxz1999 The weight was a major factor though, and your response verifies my comment. 🤔 It's easier, and far healthier, for seriously heavy people to drop a few pounds than to exponentially overbuild every machine they encounter to assure their safety. The between the leg harness may have helped, but likely would have resulted in serious permanent injury to his pelvic area. Criticism isn't always a bad thing. Had the boy smoked 5 packs a cigarettes a day, someone would have suggested he cut back. Everyone knows cigs kill but 6 half pound Arby's a day?? A - OK apparently

There’s no way it was “partially secured.” As you can see, the part intended to lock between the riders legs was completely IN THE AIR. Only negligence explains why that wasn’t caught. Regardless, the ONLY logical explanation is that the harness slammed shut upon the ride stopping, after he had fallen out.
