Ornamec 170 Herbicide Results! It's Not Pretty

This happened to me last year. The key to using this product is adding in triclopyr. Last week I used a combo of ornamec 170, triclopyr, and generic mesotrione. So far there no browning or whitening of the fescue. The bermuda is definitely hurt

I actually got my triclopyr in last week, so I have that now. However I'm not seeing a ton of browning on the fescue. It appears to be working great, it's just an eye sore this time of year. That one area is the only section of question.

In the long run, I agree, Currently, sad lol. I just hope it snaps out of this "frozen" state sooner than later. How long does it take to recover? Any idea?

Thank you for the update Mr. Ferguson. It is nice to know that this lower cost option is working on the Bermuda. Please make another update in a few weeks if possible. While it is recommended to use Ornamec in the fall (to avoid applying to stressed turf) I am starting to think that 1-2 applications before seeding would be ideal (the Bermuda is hard to spot so a 2nd app can ensure all the Bermuda is hit). The label states you must wait 14 days since the last app before seeding, so starting ~21 days before your expected seed date might be a good option if you are planning to over-seed. This way any damage to the fescue can be repaired. Perhaps taking a small hit to the fescue (spot spraying) is required to get all the Bermuda out. Of course this all hinges on the plan to over-seed!

Yes sir. It's a good time to do it (fall), because if by chance grass does die, you can quickly and easily overseed and repair those spots. Ill keep ya posted!

Thats a hot mix. Pylex doesn’t do that. It does bleach Bermuda but kills it. Thanks for the update

And Lexus is a better ride than a Honda lol. You get what you pay for, so I would hope that to be the case with Pylex. If I spend $344+ on a herbicide, it should be a little better than a $44 dollar product lol. I don't know what you mean by hot mix...it's what the label calls for. I'm just showing folks how this herbicide effects the fescue and bermuda 🤷‍♂. We'll see if it turns out as a good or bad story, lol. Thanks Chef!

Add triclopyr and tenacity. I have a cool season grass that butts up to my neighbors Bermuda and those two keeps it from coming across.

Same here, I put two rows of pavers side by side between our yards. Seems to be working. When ever I see it creeping over I spray it with roundup. Lol

Can you mix tenacity with other products together? I mixed Gordon ornamec 170 with tenacity and I’m afraid if it can kill my lawn..

Applying fertilizer to any herbicide treatment as long as your desired turf is receiving enough water is always recommended by me. It encourages the unwanted plant to uptake the herbicide quicker.

They combine granule fertilizer and week killer into a single product at lowes and home depot. So I would think fertilizing would help.

Would you recommend using ornamec application for common Bermuda and POA on a tall fescue lawn in late march-1st couple weeks of April? . I seeded tttF last fall but had BAD common Bermuda in my yard. I did a total burn down this past fall. I already put down prodiamine 3 weeks ago. I live on eastern shore of Maryland. So tough to hit my Bermuda at a time when the lawn is looking immaculate. I'm thinking I will hit it late April when it starts to come back since the cooler nights will keep it from growing in fall / winter.

I was just reading a brochure on Ornamec 170. It says the surfactant is pre-blended for the user's convenience.

Nope. They have never PLANTED it, but it's just common bermuda coming up, as it does wherever it wants. Part of living in a hot climate like NC. The heat seems to bring forth the warm season grass where it has room to slip in.

Roundup just kills but Bermuda is so aggressive that another rhizome will just take its place. The only option you have is to follow the root system and pull it all out.

Lol, not so. This product and others are labeled to control Bermuda and not harm cool season turf.

@@MrFergusonLawn very true but control, not kill. Once you have Bermuda, you're stuck for life unless you dig down and pull out the roots. Even then, it's not guaranteed. It's been a never-ending battle for a few years. 🤣
