About 7-8years ago, a HUGE wind storm passed threw. Neighbor came over & said a nest of Backyard Squirrel nest got knocked outta the tall pine tree. They left them there for a couple hours to see if mum would come get them. They went outside to hear what sounded like barking, just to realize it was 2 baby squirrels. Mum was never to be found. I was called ! Went over to inspect the situation. 2 male squirrel pups. Less than a week old with eyes & ears closed, pink with peach fuzz hair, & umbilical still attached. I took them in. As they grew, they also grew into a cage, like the one you have in the video. Each has their own personality ! Love, determination, devotion, patients, & tenaciousness in me gave them a chance to survive ! Talk about goofballs ! Very playful ! My cats just loved to play with them ! Cage was transferred to the outside for rehabilitation. At 2 years of age, they were released out in the woods out by my farm. It hurt my heart doing what I did, but deep down I knew it was the right thing to do. They both found themselves back home again. They lay on my lap outside on my porch for awhile then they're off again ! Their names are Tedda & Buddy.

You can tell this guy really loves animals and really passionate about his job. On KZbin we only see these kind of vets but in real life there's a lot of them that are only in it for the money.. Once i found a small lactating dog on the side of the road. I didn't know what was wrong with her but she was stiff as a board and panting really hard. I took her home and called everywhere i could in the middle of the night. Finally i found an Emergency Vet clinic open and took her there. I'm sure the vet knew instantly what was wrong with her but didn't come to treat her for over 15 minutes and there was no other animals in the clinic at the time! It turned out the dog was extremely dehydrated and it had something to do with the fact that she was lactating too. She got infusion to take care of the dehydration and that took care of her. Later it dawned on me how much pain she must have been in. I know i used to wake up at night in agony when i get a cramp in my leg (from dehydration), and this little dog's whole body was stiff from cramps. She couldn't move anything other than her eyes. The point is that the vet let her suffer for 15 minutes knowing the agony she is in, instead of giving her the infusion immediately. That really pissed me off, beside he billed me 220 dollars. That vet was heartless :-( Sorry about the venting...

MELEDITH L. $220 for an infusion is on the cheaper end of things. And emergency infusions aren't automatically generated. Within the 15 minutes, the vet was more than likely preparing the medicine (which had to be measured as close to perfection as possible, or else it could've hurt her), and maybe possibly reviewing her symptoms to validate whether he/she would have another diagnosis for the dog.

I wish I had a vet clinic like this one near where I live. Whenever I have an injured or sick rodent I'm very reluctant to take them to any vet close enough to drive to because they always claim doing an sort of operation on a small animal is too risky, and put all my animals down instead. Whereas vet ranch will do eye surgery on a hedgehog... If I sneezed in the waiting room, my pet's vet would tell me they'd have to euthanize me.

Awww, THAT brought back MANY memories!! I co-founded a wildlife organization when I was just 17, (I had volunteered, then worked for a vet since 12 & ALWAYS got the squirrels!). I became known as "the squirrel lady", and my own kids were brought up around lots of baby critters. Unfortunately, 3 kids and a medical career with humans, as well as moving several states away, put a halt to most of my wild animal adventures,...except for the first 2 years working PT at a "zoo"-it was actually more like a retirement home for both circus, unwanted zoo animals, and confiscated exotic pets-most of which were being abused or neglected, (that "cute", harmless lil tiger cub isn't QUITE as "cute" or harmless, a few hundred pounds later!). I'm actually moving back down there next year, and seeing that I'm now disabled, mainly housebound-I'll be back in touch with my friends who now run the wildlife org!!

I let squirrels cross three street. I saved a juvenile a few winters ago right in my driveway. Released him when recovered. I don't care if some think they're pests. They're loving creatures. They deserve respect and care.

*i found abandoned squirrels once :D I decided to care for them and feed them, once they grew big enough to do stuff on their own I let them go! 😄 they were so cute lol I named them gizmo and boo, (lol I know I know great names)* *I still see them around sometimes, (I only know it's them because gizmo has a spot on his back for some weird reason 😂 and boo doesn't have as big of a tail as a normal squirrel*

Thank you for posting this video. I found 2 baby squirrels in southwest MO. I had a cage built similar to the one in the video and it was PERFECT for squirrels learning how to be squirrels. The tree branch with leaves on it was also a great idea. They built a wonderful nest in their house with the leaves. They are about 12 weeks old now and are just about ready to have the cage opened so that they can explore. Since they were a late litter, we will be offering them food all winter. This was one of the most rewarding things that I have ever done. A lot of work though. I have a whole new respect for Momma squirrels!
