This is a very nice place to hike. Pleasant place. The countryside landscape atop is beautiful. Love it.

We love the Lake District, this was our 2nd summer in a row visiting. I agree that it was a fab spot to hike in, so pleased you like the landscape too

I've done that walk a few times, nice and short with views in all directions. Although, I've never done the longer version...maybe next time! Also, I didn't see an ham and egg sandwiches this time, not even on the shopping list - hope you two don't go hungry 😛

Ahahaha, we were trying to use up some of the fresh food we had in the fridge at home so put together a cous cous salad with tomato, avocado and mozzarella as a one off special. The ham and egg sandwiches will make a re-appearance in this Lake district series though! 🤣🤣 I was surprised by how pretty the longer version of this walk was, if you have the extra time next time around, I'd recommend it!

I was thinking 'oh wow I'd love to go up to Orrest Head but I'll be nowhere near Windermere'.... I bloody did this already, oops XD It was fantastic too, it's an incredible view. I'd recommend people do it first thing and then they get a preview of what's to come in their Lake District holiday. Unless like me they're staying in Keswick and doing the hikes around there. What amazed me most about the view up there is how far away everything was because the plaque tells you and you just think 'excuse me? No way'. Plus how much of Windermere you see and you remember how long it is and thus how much distance you are looking at with its crazy almost entire length in view

That's so funny when you forget about something you've done and you see something to reignites the memory - awesome that you've been up there too! Like you, we also headed up to Keswick, based ourselves there for the week and with the exception of the Langdales and Loughrigg Tarn, all of our other adventures were very much in the north part of the park. I agree about the distance from the viewpoint, but I guess that's why the viewpoint is so good!

Good to see you back in the Lake District! Makes sense to start off with a shorter hike especially if you've just driven up from London - however it's equally as sensible to get some use out of the half day and not waste it sitting around waiting for the first full day. Cool home video footage of you down on the lake, tough question to answer about the speed boats as I can see sense in both options. It's quite a big lake so perhaps they could allow water sports in a small part of it? Love the views of the countryside, lakes and Superman haha

We love the Lake District. Probably our favourite place in the UK, marginally beating Cornwall as we find it easier to escape the crowds up there. Glad you liked the home video footage from the early 90's. My dad has always been into technology so I'm lucky that I have a lot of home movies as he always had a video camera growing up (though sometimes it's just plain embarrassing!) I agree about the idea of having the water spots on some of the Lake, I'd love to still be able to water ski there!

The walk up to Orrest Head is technically THE FIRST Wainwright : In 1930, a 23 year old Wainwright made his first ever visit to the Lake District and like you, he immediately headed up to Orrest Head where he got his first view of the Cumbrian Fells. In his own words: that moment began his love affair with The Lake District; (A love affair that endured for the next 61 years and inspired thousands of other people like you and I.)

Ooooh I didn't know this. So is it actually a Wainwright, or just on a technicality?
