And imagine the pricing in order to make any kind of a profit. That looks like minimum 25 pounds of Roma tomatoes to purchase. Even if he grew them in his own garden, that reflects the labor of an entire summer. It made 11 qt jars and the labor stretched over two days. It’s a labor of love.

Carlota, it's not worth it, I'm Italian and I make my own for my family, my 3 kids and their families, my sisters..... to make a story sstory, I made last year 2,500 pounds of tomato roughly 350 1 liter jars and some more 2 liters, I am equipped, I do not cut tomatoes, I throw them into a modified raisin crusher on top of a 125 liters pot directly over a propane burner the crusher is motorized, , I have 3 of these large pots with 3 burners, you let the crushed tomatoes boil for an hour, then I pass them into a straining motorized machine, extracts everything and separates the juice, then you let it boil another 90 minutes, then put in the pots, we do not consider this a spaghetti sauce, it's the base sauce for making the final sauce, consider that it costs me about $1.50 to produce 1 liter, when you can buy that for less than $1 in a store, and to say frankly, it's not bad too, so it's not really worth it to think of selling, we do it because we are used to....the taste we accomplish, and we know it's all natural....

I’m Irish but I had a friend whose grandmother was a little old Italian woman. She cooked Sunday dinners and sat us all down to eat every week. I watched her for years, learning to cook Italian food, and making sauces like the gentleman in this video. I made it a point to learn how to cook dishes from many other cultures as well. No matter where the dishes originates from, the best food is made using these old fashioned methods. Nothing compares to it.

Most people thumb videos down to stop seeing videos on a certain subject or from a certain channel, not because they didn’t actually like the video. The feed from KZbin’s algorithm can get repetitive. I watched one video on how to lay linoleum; I only needed to do it once, but I still get recommendations to watch more flooring videos years later.

The recent generation thinks that anything made in those conditions is not hygienic. They been doing it this way for generations and they are not dropping like flies because it was not made in a “sterile operating room” setting. But they will go to their favorite restaurant and rave about the sauce or a certain dish, not knowing the conditions it was cooked in.

You know some of my fondness memories whilst vagabonding Europe in 1974-76 was coming into a small village finding all having a siesta then sitting in the only place to get a Peroni beer and running into locals thanking me for riding them of the Nazi's in WW2. The more often than not being honored in the evening by the village mayor and dignitaries and feasting and consuming the wines and beer's many times made in the village. And yes being introduced to the available ladies. Wonderful people and so many stories to remember.

I do this myself. There is nothing like cracking open a fresh jar of homemade in the dead of winter with a foot of snow on the ground. Tastes 500x better than any store-bought.

klesh, it not only tastes better, but no store-bought, restaurant-made sauce can even hold a candle to it. When I go to the olive garden, it is clear that their red sauce comes right out of a can, barely cooked. It's so sour it's inedible.

I found your channel a few days ago. This video made me cry! You remind me so much of my Grandpa who passed a few years back. He and my Grandma were full Italian. He looked like you, had the same station wagon(and same color) as you, wore a straw hat like you do, and whistled all the time to us grandkids and our kids! God bless you, and I am planning on making your tomato sauce when my tomatoes are ready to harvest! Thank you 💜

I popped up here when i was looking up when to add the basil to the sauce and was surprised at this lovely video. His accent was beautiful and the winderful " no sweat, no sauce." was much appreciated. I think ill stick to a food processor to puree but i learned much and will try to being some of the past to my cooking. I dont know if it will compete, but no doubt it will be the best ive tasted.

Beautiful! When I was a kid, every summer we spent a good day cutting up tomatoes, jarring them and storing them in the fruit cellar. Tomatoes were everywhere! I didn’t appreciate it at the time as a kid but I do now. I wish I paid more attention. The things you miss as an adult are the things you gripe about as a child. So very appreciative of your videos and you sharing your knowledge- it’s gold! 🙏🏻💜 much love to you!

I have worked farm picking by hands green beans, peas, tomatoes, etc.... stringing beans, peas, peeling tomatoes, etc.... for those who have done this or still do, it is normal. For those who have not, you have just killed their dream for making your tomato sauce because they have no idea what hard work goes into canning fresh vegetables/fruits. In u.s. , especially to young generation, words like hard work, sweat, sore back are taboo. They would rather make a tomato sauce out of ketchup packets from mcdonalds than do this, lol. I appreciate it my friend.
