Its time for a Q and A! In this video I will be answering your questions from my perspective as an Orthodox Jewish Homeschooling Mom of three. I will be sharing facets of my Orthodox life as I answer your questions on a variety of topics. The questions and my answers range from can Jews adopt? to how do you handle Diabetes on fast days? and Do we celebrate Christian holidays with my extended family? also How do you know what kind of Jew you are? and can you wear leggings under your dresses? and how do you handle the Mikvah during Menopause? and what is Kosher? And what makes a food kosher? And many many more! I answer each question based on my personal knowledge and experience to the best of my ability :)
Hello and welcome! My name is Chana, I’m married to my best friend, and we have three wonderful children together. We also happen to be Orthodox Jews and we homeschool our kids. This video is a sneak peek into our daily lives :) You can see how this particular Jewish homeschool mom sets up her days, rolls with the punches, and gets it all done. Thanks for watching!

I really respect how there are certain things you hold back on, yet others where you're an open book. I appreciate that you always have the forethought to pause and really think through your answers to ensure you're not putting anything out that would be devisive. There's such a level of respect for other cultures. For example, I notice that you tend to hold back a bit on stuff relating to your parents and family, when it is an answer that is incredibly deep and personal, like your beliefs vs. their Christian ones. It's a delicate balance to put your life out there for the public, but to also keep a handle on how much is too much. To simplify my point, we have freedom of speech. But just because we have it, doesn't mean we have to exercise it and let everyone know every thought we have. Exercising restraint and not sharing things that might hurt or be sensitive spots to others shows how much you respect them, and ultimately, love them, which is the basis of what both of our religions believe. People like you are so refreshing to me. In a world that praises outspokenness as authenticity, and restraint in conversation as a threat to individuality, you are an example of how to walk and speak gracefully and preserve peace.

@@jaroffireflies you could always wait until your children have grown up some. As they get older, they'll need less "hands-on" from you and do more independent work. I agree 100% as well. To me, it's no different than mermaids, unicorns, or dragons. I was raised in a rather strict Christian household/ community and as a child, I wasn't allowed to read/ own the books, or any books/ games/ movies that were along those lines. I absolutely adore Harry Potter and couldn't imagine not sharing that wonderfully whimsical world with my children now. I wish that more people, especially those of religious backgrounds shared these views. The world is serious enough as it is; let the kids (and us adults as well) dream and imagine.

I've always yearned to know as much as I can about other Cultures/Religions. It makes living in our multicultural world easier for me. Whilst there are those I can easily set aside because of Cult like practices, I learn so much from others. I had some preconceived notions of Judaism in my early life, I now love the principles. A keen interest in history, at school, led to my visits to the concentration camps a few times. That is a tragic and sobering encounter. I've been to Ann Frank's attic accommodation in Amsterdam and devoured books on that era. Your videos now open up the family situation to me. I love the happiness you exude. For a brighter, safer future, we must learn from the past. So many communities have contributed much to society. I like to respect others, even though our backgrounds and cultures are poles apart. I want my daughter to be without prejudice, so that she can gracefully proceed. You are a shining example of your culture.

I also love to learn about other cultures and religions and such. I am currently searching for a good fit for me in relation to religion, I have been LDS since I was 16 years old and recently found I had more questions than answers in the Church. I am exploring all and your channel is helping me with the Jewish side of my journey. I just am not sure about the holidays and the Shabbat part because my husband is Southern Baptist and most likely will not convert. I just don't know where I belong yet and it makes me very uneasy because I feel the second coming is very close and I feel unprepared.

Hi Chana, Love your Video's Thanx so much! I am a Diabetic (I am in my 50's, and have been a Diabetic for about 10 years.) I do not fast on most Fast days, excluding the 9th of Av and Yom Kippur. I always speak with my rabbi before those fasts and if I feel ill, I drink water( a certain amount called Shiurim).every 9 minutes when needed. Of course I really do not want to drink but I need to really watch my sugar stays at a healthy number on these days. I do what is needed.

Another great video! I truly enjoy your Q&A videos. I'm familiar with a lot of Jewish traditions, holidays, and rituals through friends and "fun fact" my mother, who is Danish was an upstairs maid in the Israeli Consulate in Copenhagen, Denmark, just prior to her university studies. Much of what she learned there was taught in our home although we are Lutheran. Food somewhat confuses people who are not aware of the Jewish faith. To me, it makes sense as I grew up with it...and being an American child of European parents, lol! Many blessings to you and your family and I hope all of you feel better soon. 😊

Thank you for talking about your side of the family. I commented on an older video that I wondered if you interacted with your birth family and you answered! I totally understand not spending Christian holidays with your family but it's still important IMO for your kids to interact with them and get to know them!

When our local Kellogg factory switched from making nutragrain bars to pop tarts my Friendster (friend/sister) was the person in charge (at that factory) of making sure that all the allergens were listed on the packaging and getting the factory certified kosher. She told me all the steps that they had to go through including driving to the closest airport (3 hours one way) to pick up the person who was inspecting the facility to make sure they were doing it correctly (this was like 2005/2006 so the process maybe different now). I don’t if they are still kosher or not but I was surprised that only the unfrosted ones were kosher (at least at that time).

I always find it interesting the questions you are asked for these Q and A's! I always learn something new. As for Harry Potter and really all fairy tales, a wise older lady told me that as long as good triumphs over evil, she feels those stories are okay and even teach a valuable lesson. With my last name being Grimm of course I am going to stand up for fairy tales.lol But I also agree with you that if you have a check in your spirit about some of the more modern and dark examples of magic, I would do just as you did Chana. We have to use our heads and our hearts.

Hey Chana! Love these Q & A vids! Leggings yes! Funny story - being in Florida when I started dressing modestly, I never thought to ask about what we would do in cold weather. My Dad became naftir in December many years ago. Our family cemetery is in NY. There was a huge blizzard predicted for that night (which, Baruch Hashem, never happened!) and the temps were well below freezing. I talked to my Rebbetzin about how to dress and she told me thermal shirt and pants under my clothes, leggings and, of course, boots. I still wear leggings under my skirts now. We do get cold here sometimes. Like last Shabbos and Sunday, when it in the 40s at night and only in the low 60s during the day. This Shabbos and Sunday, they're predicting the same, maybe even cooler. We will also some years get down to 15 or so for a week or two in January. 🥶 To the person who asked about the status of eggs - in addition to what Chana explained ... this rarely, if ever, happens nowadays but if you find an egg inside of a chicken (or other bird), it is considered meat and can't be eaten with dairy. And, yes, the real reason your husband came to America was to meet you. It, of course, wasn't yet time to meet you. The job opportunity was just Hashem providing a practical reason. Many times, our bashert (soulmate) is in another country, on the other side of the world and it seems like it would be impossible to meet. But, Hashem has His ways 😃! Take care and Shabbat Shalom!

Also, when I was asked about why as a Christian I would read and and allow my children to read Harry Potter my answer was 2 part 1) I love the bond of friendship throughout the series and 2) never once after reading the books have I or my children felt the urge or have we cast any spells on anyone. The books are great fantasy, not real witchcraft.

Boker tov Hannah. I am looking for a book (small if possible) that has the morning prayers and all the barukas. The little book you had in one of your videos (when you did handwashing) didn't look like a full size siddur, so I am wondering if there is something like what I am looking for. LOL . My rabbi loving called me a new baby jew the other day. I had to smile and laugh. Thank you for sharing all you do. Your conversion videos have made me realize I don't have to get it all down at one time - it will take time. Amazing - I really can't learn it all in a short time. Love my journey and love the fact that I can laugh at myself.

Hi Stephanie! Many siddurs come in different sizes. I have my regular weekday and Shabbat siddurs in two different sizes of the exact same book :) If you are Ashkenaz check out the Artscroll Women's Siddur. If you are Sephardi check out the Orot Sephardi siddur :) Hope that helps!

These Indian dishes you get in a bag in the international section, they say their vegan, gluten free and Kosher!!! I was looking for stuff with 0cholesterol. My cholesterol is rising a little, and looking at my family history, that's not good. Also, my tooth is saved, they were able to do a root canal. I have a Bible study on Zoom at 2 PM EST/1 PM CST. Here where I live the temperature is supposed to drop, so I got food today. My uncle was next in line, and the poor bagger mixed his food in with mine. I was once a bagger. But I made sure I at least had the dates, I love dates, and they were lower in price. Oh, and they got new carts, the wheels were smooth. And they had the salad I liked that I used to only find at Kroger.

Chana "Texas" is a BIG state. Depending upon were you live, will determine how often you see snakes. When I lived in "town" (I grew up in Plano) I never saw them. I now live in a rural area up on Lake Texoma. I have had a snake come in via the Doggie Door. We have also had them wound around the back fence. We see them in the lake all the time. Again, just depends on were you live. Just my opinion. Thanks for all the info you provide. I enjoy your channel.
