Hi i want to know about orthodox christians

Absolutely I like this topic! I’m 67 & have lived all over the US, in Europe & Northern Africa. I’ve witnessed so many denominations. The one I’m most curious about now are the Coptic Christians. They are suppose to be the oldest Christian church dating back to Jesus time. I wanted to meet the ones in Egypt, but travel for Americans & military personnel was risky after the 67 wars & during Kaddafy’s 69 coup when I was there. I know little about them at this point, but would be interested in a comparison between them and the modern church.

While I'm not overly religious I grew up in an Orthodox country (Bulgaria) and I can say what I like about our churches is that they're always open and you can go in any time you want, you can light a candle and sit with your own thoughts without anyone bothering you. Catholics do have magnificent buildings and beautiful window art.

Also a Catholic and I have friends from other religions (both Christian and non) but no practicing Orthodox friends. Always considered Orthodox Catholics as very similar but curious to know whether we are fundamentally the same with superficial differences or if there is something fundamentally different in our theology that separates us. If I remember correctly the Orthodox communion is the only (non-Roman Catholic) communion we are allowed to receive from a different church but only under extenuating circumstances.

Practicing Greek Orthodox here, born and raised in the United States. I'm 1st generation of parents from Cyprus. My wife is a Catholic convert, and is very active in the orthodox faith. While we practice orthodoxy, we have attended many Catholic services with my extended family and friends. Also, my children attend Catholic school. Both Orthodoxy and Catholicism provide the same teachings of christ . We are all Christians. The only differences I see between the two are basically politics.

I was born a German Protestant but left the church years ago. From an outsider's perspective and what is written in the bible, which for some reasons I know more about as an Atheist than most Christians, I think the orthodox church is more in the right. Although I love the art of both of them. Without feeling the connection to a God I love spending time in churches that are hundreds of years old.

Orthodoxy has 2 main claims against Catholics - the immaculate conception of Mary the Mother of God and Filioque. The first, though noble, contradicts the goodness and omnipotence of God. The second is contrary to the creed, which was adopted at the Niceo-Constantinople Council. The creed cannot be changed outside of the decision of the Ecumenical Council. Wow a Polish Orthodox? You must be one of the only one's in the country lol. I'm half Polish and of Catholic faith like a typical Pole. I'm trying to learn more why some Slavic countries are mostly Catholic like Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, and why some are Orthodox like Russia, Ukraine, Belarus. Having been to Russia and Ukraine, read further about it and talked with people there, I think I can add four significant organizational differences. 1. The Catholic church is more flexible in number of congregations, parishes, bishoprics etc. In Orthodoxy there is a strict bottom floor, the number of four subordinates to one unit, i.e. at least four congrecations to each parish, at least four parishes to each bishopric... 2. The monkhood is in both churches main educational institutions for the clergy, but Orthodox monasteries reserves all spiritual education to take place at the monastery. The national head of all monasteries, the archimandrite, is the next in command after the patriarch and his likely successor. 3. Finish educated, a Catholic priest can hope for promotion to higher dignity with further home studies and publications on divinities. In Orthodoxy You stay on as a monk and go up the degrees within the monastery, You can leave anytime there is a unit leadership vacant which the monastic leaders regards You fit for but leaving the black monasticism into white priesthood will be the culmination of the career, no further promotion can be expected. 4. Catholic monasteries are organized in orders, an Augustine monk from Germany can come to an Augustine monastery in Guatemala and be quite certain about what life will be there. Orthodox monasteries are organized not in orders but territorially, all monasteries in one bishopric share similiar disciplinary rules. The Russian proverb "you don't bring your own rules to a new monastery" makes sense in Ortodoxy but in Catholic monasticism. And a small ceremonial difference: A Catholic clergyman is expected to be a lifelong celibate. An Ortodox monk must be celibate but having left the monastery to serve among lay people he isn't expected to that anymore, he can marry if he feels like. With an important caveat: No divorce under any circumstance ever!

Being a missionary is a great responsibility! The missionary must have great energy, fortitude, and courage. Wherever the missionary goes, no matter what part of the world he or she is in, he or she must spread the Word. Locals must understand what the missionary is telling them. This wonderful book will give you answers how to properly learn a foreign language with a minimum of your time and effort. @@ximiea3778 - No, when you go to confession you repent of your sin, and receive absolution. The priest is not blessing sin. Pope Francis is allowing the blessing of couples in gravely sinful relationships who are not repenting, but seeking the blessing of their relationships to make them more acceptable to God. Totally different things going on.

Forgiveness of sins, which must always include repentance upon the part of the sinner, is the greatest possible blessing that one can receive from God through the ministry of His priests. What Pope Heretic (Francis) is doing is blessing sin, and that is evil.

Hyung Jun Shim when i went to visit to korea we went to latin catholic church in some place named daejeon, n the bishop gave me a hersheys chocolate because they give chocolates to kids who did not recieve holy communion i guess. Im eastern catholic
