Yesterday it came to my attention that cellphones are being introduced into Orthodox monasteries, and being used by monks. One thing I despise so much about modern culture is the countless people I see daily glued to these devices. Monasticism is in my future, and one of the last things I want to see is a monk walking with his head bowed down, glued to a cell phone. Cellphones in Orthodox monasteries are an extension of the devil's tentacles into holy places. Cellphones have no place in a monastery. I can see one or two computers in an office, for the purpose of conducting business, like selling books and products, but no cellphones. I will not be in a monastery where cellphones are allowed. I despise these things with all my heart. They are ruining relationships and wreaking havoc on society. Monks need to be totally detached and separate. Please do not ever let your monks use cell phones. Thank you.

It has been rightly said by many that flip phones/dumb phones were the best. At most, the only entertainment in those phones was the Snake game, an arcade style space shooter(I forgot the name of it) and, depending on the model, music/songs.

I find myself using my free time to consume orthodox and faith/spirituality content on my phone. Which in one way teaches me about the christian life, but at the same time I don't apply what I learn and just keep consuming content.. Very ironic ☹️
