It's so important to be able to pay attention to the services. What a beautiful spiritual and educational journey they provide! I used to attend services where services were chanted just slowly enough for every word to "captured," and offered to God within. English was not the first language of the Abbess. She had to translate the words as they were chanted. At times, she would say, "...girls, slow down and let the Lord catch the words!" It was wonderful. So many times, it seems like people just try to get through the services as fast as possible. A slightly slower tempo, with a strong melody and ison, with something as simple as clear enunciation makes the services so much more easily listened to and concentrated on. I feel very fortunate to have had that "spiritual education" of being able to concentrate on the services. It's not available in many church services. I'm delighted when it is. It just occurred to me now that the Mystical Supper was not just an event in time that we commemorate, but an event that happened then and in every subsequent Liturgy simultaneously as if we are all at the table.
