Went to my first Divine Liturgy yesterday. It was beautiful and incredibly different from what I have experienced before (I am an evangelical). I walked in and was so excited to see the icons and smell the incense for the first time. Glory to God for all things!

This is a great truth. Only (!) the Orthodox Church keeps producing saints. This is also why among among the heterodox and heretics the prerequisites for sainthood have been either changed or the whole idea is departed from altogether.

I almost scrolled past this, fearful and resentful but i stayed to listen. Your sermon did not elicit fear like the hellfire and brimstone sermons of the Baptist Churches I attended as a child. I currently suffer from unbelief and an unwilling spirit that the Lord in His mercy showed me while praying last year. I want to trust to be willing but at the same time I'm afraid to do so. Please pray for me and other struggling with the same problem.

Sometimes things in the past hurt and it's hard to move past it. Even though I prayed many times for those people and asked God for forgiveness in my heart I find myself unable to be friends with them any more because of the hurt I experienced. Am I expected to be friends with them again or is it OK to move on without that friendship?
@OrthodoxTradition10 күн бұрын
As long as you forgive from your heart, and you parted peacefully, it is not necessary to go out of your way to keep contact. Be peaceful and pray for them, while not judging them.

Where is the line between being in a constant state of repentance for our past sins and forgetting them to look to the future?
@OrthodoxTradition12 күн бұрын
We must remember that we are sinners, but we put all of our hope on God's forgiveness. "Not dwelling on the past" means that we shouldn't get stuck in the details of the past, which could be a cause of despair, but look towards Christ, our only hope.

I will pray for you. By the intercession of the Theotokos and all the saints, may God grant mercy on us both, for I am a greater sinner than you…He has revealed that he has an eternal place in paradise for all of us, and the only willpower I have is to either accept the invite or throw it back at God and say “I can do better.” So far I’ve done the latter mostly but I accept His invitation today and pray that you accept yours as well

Thank you for this. I was awakened very unusually in the night and saw this on my computer. It was something I really need to hear right now, I just wish I could hear it better, or that someone would edit the auto-generated transcript. I can understand if sound equipment is too expensive, but, while the carpentry and art in your church is absolutely amazing, when we're trying to understand what you're saying, being able to see your lips might help us decipher the words. Despite missing what might be important parts, viewing this right now is priceless to me. Thank you.

I was venerating the myrrh bearing skull of St Sebastian of Jackson CA on Holy Ascension last week. Suddenly the scent of myrrh changed into the smell of death, of corruption. I cried out to God and the saint and the odor changed back to myrrh. This happened several times. God had given me Remembrace of Death as a Noetic gift a few Great Lents ago…do you think I should tell this to my SF? He lives far away and I can’t visit him often. I wondered if it meant that my own death is imminent… what should I do? Thank you Fathers.
@OrthodoxTradition15 күн бұрын
Yes, you should share these things with your spiritual father. I don't think that you should interpret this event as a message that your death is imminent. We should be prepared every day for our death.

I am tired, exhausted , it’s hard to wrap my mind around the evil selfish users and abusers. It’s hard to live always in grief, sorrow, trying to be close to God, I am learning I should have been good to me instead of everyone else, the world will strip you, destroy you slander you and laugh at you, when you have no desire to do anything but good for them.
