For MSV, a raga was only a tool. The life and depth of the music in reflecting the mood and emotion of the character and situation in a movie was more important to him and not using a raga. A raga was only a base to bring the edifice and not the pure structure on which the song stood. It is for the puritans to see what raga is found. Many songs of MSV had flavours of different ragas and some had surprisingly western touch on Carnatic ragas. Example is Azhakiya Tamizh magal song from the movie Rickshawkaran based on Sarukesi raga. Similarly the song Athisiya Ragam song. That’s why his songs will remain for another century and more people will keep on dissecting the music and find new gems. The greatest ever composer and creator of music India ever had in the last century.

An Extraordinary analysis for an Extraordinary Song! ThanQ Very Much Dr Narayanan Sir for such a fantastic decoding of an iconic song threadbare. We could observe how intensely Dr Narayanan has enjoyed this composition like a million of us. We could sense that such a feeling came from his heart. As highlighted by Dr Narayanan, a Creative Genius like MSV, while composing a song, usually tends to concentrate and focus more on the Expressive Flow of the Lyrical Phrases than the Musical Phrases since a Film Music Composer has got that imaginative freedom and thus he rightfully used his Manodharmam focusing more on the mood, the feel and the emotions that would be running into a particular character for a particular situation and the tunes came from his heart rather than his mind. That's why we got such magical phrases in many of his great compositions defying Music Grammars.
