Doing this on the pond made it far more easier to see the results than on fast moving water. That was a great lesson and I thank you for it.

This instructor is taking the time (free of charge) and showing you how to cast a line in all weather conditions, and i was taught by an instructor myself and i can reasure you its practice that makes you a much better caster when others can only do the over head cast in normal conditions, it doesn't matter wheather he shows you in a pond, on grass or on mars for that matter, il give you an idea, i could only cast a beach caster with a plain lead 120 yards, i got lessons, on a field i casted 207 yards, why cause after getting lessons i went to the beach and practiced what i was taught and not just from getting lessons, result i had fish when others didn't and the guy who taught me shore fishing was very impressed indeed, i caught fish. Same in fly fishing, go out and actualy practice what Peter is showing you as i can use all these casts and to great effect, find a field, simple. Oh just to add i use all these casts that Peter is showing you on a lake, pond and believe it or not on a salmon river and thats low water and high running water. Get out and practice guys, simple, if you don't you are talking utter crap, yeah you will catch fish but them hard days. Keep up the good work Peter, yeah the aerial mend is a very good tip to have under your belt (wink).

Doing it on still water allows us to see exactly where the line is landing and what pattern it makes. That's how you learn to do stuff. Seeing it on a river we'd lose sight of the size and shape of the mend very quickly.

Wow who cares what conditions he shows us in anyways?? People are so critical. I've watched tons of his lessons and they're all very helpful. Relax people lol. This is all free for us!

just a novice here... but it was perfectly obvious to me why this lesson was taught on a still pond... guess haters just gotta hate...

Anyone have thoughts on how important an indicator is when nymphing across multiple currents?

Is it really needed for rivers diesnt the floating line naturally drift?
@brycealthoff8092 Жыл бұрын
It’s to prevent drag. If your fly line is floating downstream of your fly, it can cause it to drift unnaturally. You can mend the line after it hits the water, but if you put the mend into the cast you may not have to. It really helps when the stream you’re fishing has different current speeds.

Arial mending, drag, current, cross current; big words, standing on a pond! This video is a disgrace for Orvis who has more credible professionals like Tom Rosenbaur! Enough said!

why would you be doing a mend lesson on a lake? No streams near by???? Seriously? and this is why we all love Orvis?
