Thank you Tom! As a fly fisherman in-training, it's neat to see what others carry. Awesome!

I use this pack. Couple of things that I carry, other than what he mentioned, a six pack and a hoagie sammich.

I have this exact pack, and I'd say you have a lot of weight on my back just like you do. How to you deal with all of the weight on your shoulder. It starts getting on my nerves as the day goes on.

I like that forceps attachment a LOT better than the on I got on my pack that I just bought. You have to tuck it up inside this pocket and *try* to grab a piece of fabric tucked way up in there. Kind of a lousy design.

How often do people use a stomach pump on trout to see what they’ve eaten? Is this really necessary??? Get rid of it.

Steve I agree. Just use a sieve. The trout probably worked pretty hard for that meal

Tom isn’t really a rank and file fly fisherman like we are though. He’s out writing guidebooks and doing instructionals, so I think it makes sense if he’s a little more intrusive than we would be.

Too bad Orvis doesn't make that particular bag anymore. The current issue is a bit of a joke.

I owned this pack, I think is is called the Guide pack, I couldn't get on with the strap cutting into my shoulder, neck area 0:12. The strap itself is hard which makes it really uncomfortable. I found the Simms pack is way better in this respect. The smaller Orvis pack is a lot better, which I still have, but again, the strap could do with being made of softer and more flexible material. Then there is the thin stap that clips into the main strap that does not help much, Orvis really needs to redesign the straps on their packs, there is plenty of room for improvement in that respect.

I've been looking at the smaller Orvis sling having used the Simms Tactical pack for sometime now. Disappointed to hear about the Orvis strap being uncomfortable which is my main complaint about the Simms. Thankfully the Simms can be changed to fit on either shoulder when one side gets sore. Tom must have a bionic shoulder to carry all that weight!
@Enpassantful
@Enpassantful 4 жыл бұрын
@@floydk2813 I have a Simms Headwaters sling pack as well, the strap is a lot more comfortable as it sits mainly over the shoulder, unlike the Orvis Guide sling pack that sits right on the neck area. The smaller Orvis sling pack is more user friendly, probably because you can't load it up as much.

@@floydk2813 I’m thinking of buying the small sling, is it really small? I’ll be on the rivers fishing carrying essentials and a water bottle only!
@floydk2813

@@davidgregg6703 If you're referring to the Simms Tactical then the answer to your question is "yes". You should be fine. It helped me learn NOT to carry so much gear. The only gripe that I had with Simms is that most slings have a water bottle holder on the outside whereas there is no provisions on the Simms. I've since switched over to the Fishpond Flathead sling. It's also ambidextrous, has lots more room for gear and a nice net holder. Not as streamlined as the other brands but for me it's function over fashion.

@@floydk2813 I’m looking at the small orvis sling it’s cheaper than Simms, fishpond is very expensive, heads turned looking, I like the look of chest packs to. Can’t decide what to buy
