I thought I was back in 1st grade watching an enthusiastic classmate at showing tell. Tom you are such a wealth of info while being fun to watch. Thank you!

Thanks for this video Tom. Finally decided to go with a sling bag last week, after a frustrating outing with a new vest with too much "crap" on the outside, getting my leader and fly caught on. My fly hooked the vest I can't tell you how many times. Your video here convinced me to research sling bags and I decided to get this Orvis Guide sling. It arrived yesterday and I'm so glad I got the larger size. Can't wait to get back to the stream to try it without a foot of gear sticking out of my chest. Thanks again!

Well done. This is the most comprehensive review I've seen. You always want to know how much the thing can really carry before you commit to buying something without getting to put your own hands on it. Well done.

Did I see a hash pipe in Toms bag? No wonder why he’s always happy 😃

God stuff Tom. In addition I carry bug repellent wipes, bandaids, a small multi-tool, UV cement and mini-light, small side-cutters for clipping hook shanks, diamond file, hook eye threader and a needle for clearing hook eyes.

I needed side cutters once when a large pike drove a barbed hook between my thumb and pointer finger, didn’t have em. Now, I always have em! Ouch!

Tom Rosenbaur..non fishing question.. what is that Blk watch you always have on?

Hi. I was hoping you could give me some advice. I have fished all my life in Ontario, Canada. We recently moved to Newfoundland and I want to start fly fishing. I never tried it and a lot of the items in your video are things I've never heard of. What would you recommend for a person just starting out? Are there fly fishing kits available? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I would stop by a local fly shop they shouldnt lead you in the wrong direction. I would firstly recommended getting a pair of waders with boots attached or waders and boots. Then secondly a fly rod and reel, im fairly new to fly fishing myself and there is still new things I find out everyday. Taking it one day at a time and enjoying the water. Hopefully you'll get pointed in the right direction and join the fun community of fly fishing! Tight lines, Brock.

Hi there, recommend you go to the playlist for the Orvis Guide to Fly Fishing and start watching the shows Tom did. Start with the first one which covers the basics. There is also one episode on atlantic salmon which you will undoubtedly go after in Newfoundland. Good luck and have fun learning!

Great video, but I would not advertise or advocate the use of a stomach pump. Other than that, good review.

Stomach pump?! Isn't that hurting the trout?
@newflyfisher5 жыл бұрын
Pika, the stomach pump has been researched and proven to not harm the fish. Obviously taking away food is not good, but otherwise it does not harm them. Scientist and biologist have been using them for years

That certainly is a pile of stuff! I tried a sling but couldn't get it to stay put. It just did not have a balanced or comfortable feel about it. Gave up on it all together. I'm thinking this idea will go the way of nose bras on vehicles.

I'm in that boat too. I have used a backpack far too long and couldn't get used to the weight not on both shoulders. I loved the orvis sling in theory, but I ended up going back to my backpack with a small waist pack on my wading belt for anything I need in the moment.

when it comes to flashlights and knives when you're out in the woods, 2 is one and 1 is none, so.
