Hello Novation! Why summit have strange overtones on higher octaves on all Waves on initialise patch, when you play higher c3 note some fifth or chords it's like LFO effect, it's normal ?

Just tried a ringmod of 2 very high sine waves on the machine: sum of the waves waves nearly 40k and no spectral distortion. Freaking amazing

Great video, very clear and concise with your explanations. I learned a lot in a short amount of time. I am also in awe of your desk and shelves, looks like a great design/layout

13:57 I doubt the summit is set to a well-temperament by default but it's cool you can do it pretty easily for synthesiser Bach etc.

Virtual sync, getting a sync type sound without the traditional 2 oscillators needed.
@RobFlaxMusic4 жыл бұрын
Dumb question here: for a synth noob, what does "virtual sync" or "oscillator sync" mean? I am hearing a sound but my ears hear that as similar to scanning through a wavetable. What is the oscillator syncing with? Any famous examples of where to look/listen to learn more about this sound?
@demnevanni4 жыл бұрын
Basically, it means you force Oscillator B to "sync" to the frequency of Oscillator B. It works best if the main oscillator (A) is faster than the secondary oscillator. When A finishes a cycle, wherever B is in it's cycle, it automatically snaps back to the start of it's cycle, forcing it to be "in tune" with the main oscillator. Because this is unnatural and mathematically odd (odd as in strange, not as even/odd), it results in interesting and variously pleasing/harsh results. I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but it's a pretty fun technique.
@demnevanni4 жыл бұрын
Also, scanning through a wavetable doesn't have a "sound" of it's own. Your wavetable could be anything, but it's usually a series of related, but ever so slightly changing waveforms, one after another, leading to a pleasing "morph" from one sound to another. But it could be a sample of a cat meowing and then a steamboat horn and then car brakes and then a sawtooth. It's individual snapshots of waveforms arranged in whatever order the sound designer decided was appropriate.

A request for Novation - let us save settings on the init patch so that drift and diverge wouldn't have to be changed with every new patch.
@danielmulholland58693 жыл бұрын
Can you not save a preset to a new location? I don't own a summit, so I don't know, but couldn't you just save your ideal init patch to user preset 1 and then make any changes you'd like, then save the resulting patch to user preset 2, meaning that the init patch you had made formerly was still intact in user preset 1?

Great serie of videos. I just got my Summit and I love it. Quick question though, when I assign osc shape to lfo 1 on the front panel, the lfo does not seem to have any effect if shape is set to 0 (middle position). If I assign lfo 1 to osc shape through the mod matrix it affects the value even if shape value is at 0. Is this normal behavior? thank you!
@NovationTV7 ай бұрын
When assigning OSC Shape to LFO1 on the front panel, has LFO1 been correctly selected as the Source? Is the LED next to LFO1 illuminated? Have you also ensured that your Summit is using the latest firmware? You can update using Components online.
@banhmi123417 ай бұрын
@@NovationTV Hi, thank you for your response. Yes, I've installed the latest firmware (version 126.778). The LED is next to LFO is on.
@NovationTV7 ай бұрын
In that case, rest assured, this is normal behavior. The LFO behaves differently from the Env amount or simple manual control because it is bi-directional, whereas the other two controls are uni-directional. The front panel dedicated control is a 3-state control. When set to LFO 1, the pot becomes a bi-directional amount of LFO to the OSC shape. This means that at 12 o'clock, it is effectively at zero (bi-directional = left for negative amounts, right for positive). So, it is correct that at 12 o'clock, it won't send LFO to the shape. In the mod matrix, it's set up differently though; the depth is already at 0 by default, so any positive or negative amount will have an effect.
