Pretty remarkable stuff! I’m at the very beginning of this (astrophotography) and I must say it’s a relief to see a method of Pixinsight workflow that isn’t ‘completely’ baffling😅 Like I mentioned, I’m at the beginning of my astrophotography journey and having already invested in some monochrome gear, my main concern was Pixinsight itself and all the editing .. Many of the ‘beginner tutorials’ I’ve seen are I’m sure intended to be simple but have often gone completely over my head!!! I stumbled across your channel and this video specifically and it would seem there ARE actually ways of simply, quickly and effectively editing data. Thank heavens.. Feel a little less overwhelmed now and in turn, a little more optimistic about editing in the future! Cheers👍

Luke you're bating a 1000 with all your new YT videos. Incredible help to us all. BTW, I think when removing stars with StarX I would recommend selecting the "onscreen Stars" option and using Bill's PixelMath formula for re-screening stars back in. And wow, Bill is really mathematically smart and super generous to give us all such wonderful tools to simplify our workflow and greatly improve our images! Just a request... could you do a WBPP video to help us to get the highest quality calibrated and integrated images for these new breakthrough post processing tools. I think some help choosing the best settings for the best sub exposure, normalizing and also channel alignment to best reduce CA. I'm mostly shooting nebulas with two different HyperStar setups, Idas NBZ and the ASI2600-MC so at this point most interested in OSC dual-band & HOO pallet. Thanks for all!

@lukomatico
@lukomatico Жыл бұрын
Hey Mick! Hope you are well mate :-) Glad you like the tools!! Re: when to apply noise reduction, it somewhat depends on the tool but generally speaking earlier can be better 👍 If using ez-denoise, then use it right before you perform a stretch. If using Topaz, use it late, right before putting stars back into an image is generally a good time. If using ez-denoise then early on, before stretching etc, then also feel free to use it later on again too - it's flexible!

I love your work. I am a Yorkshireman in Texas so I have the benefit of some pretty darks skies. I am lazy so I image from indoors in my Bortle 5 backyard with a dual band filter on an OSC. I have just bitten the Pixinsight bullet and was happy to find your channel. The Hubble palette is pure art IMHO. My question, oh wise one: I am also a "terrestrial" photography and already own and use Topaz AI. Where in the overall flow do you insert this tool? Clearly you save a file (format?) and process in AI and then what? Do you use PI noise tools in your flow at all in this case or do you combine them. That was actually one question. Honest. Ta very much

Hey Bob! - Good to hear from you mate, I hope the Texas weather is treating you better than the Yorkshire weather at the moment haha! :-) Re: Topaz in the workflow, usually I'd leave it until really late in the process - pretty much last thing before putting the stars back in - that said, it's fairly flexible and if you don't use too strong settings with Topaz you can actually apply twice during processing for a really smooth end result. - Saving your interim starless work as a .tiff is totally fine, it'll work in both Topaz and PixInsight that way. Re: using PI own noise tools, practically never to be honest! Hope that helps mate!

this is amazing, so is it worth going mono and SHO filters? or I can just do this? I am on the border to get a mono camera to have a better quality, but it looks like I can use color shoot with l-extreme and convert it.... ?
@lukomatico
@lukomatico Жыл бұрын
Good question mate, honestly mono and filters is going to be overall higher quality, but it costs a lot more to get into and has added complexity of dealing with individual frames. Mono Vs OSC has never been a closer battle than it is right now though I'd say, these modern sensors are so efficient it's starting to just become a case of preference I think. That's my opinion anyway bud!
