*September 1985* After the 10-mile force march (rifles and backpacks), being the platoon scribe (3069, 3rd & I, Parris Island), I was tasked with assigning the security watch for the evening. I searched the squadbay to fill my roster. Blood-filled blisters, stress fractures and shin splints affected the entire platoon. I called for volunteers, having the compassion to *NOT* assign recruits who were next in line. I received four recruits to fill the first four hours of the watch. *I did the last four hours of the watch.* THIS IS THE COMMITMENT THE MARINES ARE LOOKING FOR! If you can't complete a five-mile marathon, *do not enlist in the Marine Corps.*

No one brags about a ten mile bootcamp hike, it barely constitutes p.t., all things being equal this is a different time, kids today are different. They deserve credit for bothering above and beyond their spineless peers. Summer of 85 I almost cried that bootcamp was over, it felt like summer camp.

I've been to the Marine store in in Beaufort SC. My Nephew is a marine one in for sure. The minute we walked into that place it's a very unique store and the families who go there are very unique, special people ❤.

They were called Pharmacist Mates back then. I know, I'm a HM2, USN. If I remember correctly, they weren't called Hospital Corpsmen, until after Korea.
