Golden Ben : De La Hoya’s sh*t is so padded, and this notion that he fought and beat all of the best is laughable. At welterweight and above he has more signature losses than he does signature wins. Signature wins: Gatti, Vargas, Mayorga Cheap wins: Camacho, Chavez Undeserved wins: Whitaker, Quartey Signature losses: Pacquiao, Mosley, Trinidad (he ran when he got tired), Mayweather, and Hopkins Fighters he ducked or (luckily) never had to face: Jones (ascended in weight), Nunn (incarcerated), McClelland (disabled by Benn), Benn, Forrest (murdered), and Wright (Oscar ducked him). Oscar was in negotiations to fight Wright, but he handled it like a P*. He played such hardball that the deal didn’t get done. Truthfully, he wanted no part of Weight, just like he wanted no part of Forrest - or rematches with Whitaker, Quartey, Trinidad, Vargas, or Hopkins. That’s not a strong resume. It definitely doesn’t make him one of the greatest fighters ever. He was certainly one of the more talented fighters, but one of the greatest? Nope!!!

He probably will never get the credit he deserves because of all his personal bs. But he was one of the greatest ever. Never ran from anyone always fought the best out. I wish they woulda showed when he fought camacho. I think the only real fights he lost were to Bhop and manny. Cuz he beat Floyd 7 to 5. He got Mosley and trini just the same. They don't make fighters like oscar anymore
@JD_2597

He didn't beat Floyd at all. Crowd misinterpretations and clearly misinterpretations on your behalf. Oscar never hurt mayweather and never troubled him with his punches.
@raiderlos2094
@raiderlos2094 9 жыл бұрын
@jack sorry man but he pressured floyd all fight long while floyd ran. He was the aggressor and had his moments and from what I watched won a very very close fight like I said 7-5. And I watch fights the first time live with no sound so I don't hear the crowd. Floyd has his moments as well but I think Oscar did enough with his pressure to steal the close rounds and edge out Floyd. Clearly I wasn't the only one that saw that... Hence the split decision....and damn near everyone at ringside having it for Oscar. I think the victory for Floyd was given to him simply because he was the fighter that would carry the sport after Oscar exited the sport
@JD_2597
@JD_2597 9 жыл бұрын
Carlos Delgado jr nope. Floyd won in my book. Just because someone is the aggressor it doesn't mean they should win. Tyson was always the aggressor, yet he lost fights.

@DeCurtaRican
@DeCurtaRican 4 жыл бұрын
Tyler Durden : Nobody disputes that. Danny Ainge (Celtics) was a warrior, too, but he still got his ass kicked regularly when he started fights on the court. 😆 Being a warrior doesn’t make you an all-time great. De La Hoya fans have more excuses than a pimp goin’ to jail! 😏 De La Hoya’s sh*t is so padded, and this notion that he fought and beat all of the best is laughable. It definitely doesn’t make him one of the greatest fighters ever. He was certainly one of the more talented fighters, but one of the greatest? Nope!!! Do you think De La Hoya could have beaten Leonard, Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Camacho, Mancini, Prior, or Arguello? He would have been lucky to beat Benitez? Do you think he could have beaten Michael Nunn if he hadn’t gone to prison?

@@mattgamer1574 He was robbed in at least 3 to 4 of those losses, real boxing fans, people that know boxing know he was robbed. Plain and simple, the only real losses Hopkins, who was way out of Oscars true weight class, and Pac, who I feel Oscar would have easily beat when in his prime. The man had class, and fought every top contender, feared no one.

@Ed-uu9eo
@Ed-uu9eo 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Kinda like when Mayweather fought Pacquiao. After Pac received one of the most devastating KO in the history of boxing that's when Mayweather actually tried to make the fight happen. Everyone knew Pac wasn't the same as before. He was a lot more timid. A lot less aggressive. Manny fought the likes of Rios and Algerie and somehow Mayweather thought that was enough to "earn" a fight against him. Not when Manny was beating all these big names before the KO though. Mayweather fought a shell of Pacquiao. He's a smart business man and timed it right.

Oscar's one of the most exciting fighters in the last 25 years. He always went out on his shield and had very good boxing skills. I think only Mosley & Hopkins truly beat him. He lost a lot of desire before he signed for the Pacquiao fight and wouldn't be shocked to learn that's when the cocaine problem occurred.

Tim Gatuteo read this for me real quick by the way this is from boxingnews24 "The next year, however, a badly weight drained De La Hoya was stopped in the 8th round by Manny Pacquiao in an ill-advised fight weight of 147 pounds for De La Hoya. It was insane for De La Hoya to have agreed to fight at that weight, because he was walking around at 180 lbs and had to take off a lot of weight through dieting to get down to 147. You could see even before the fight that De La Hoya was in trouble, because he looked painfully thin, as if he had lost a great deal of muscle instead of just fat."

you credit DLH for too much weight loss, but the one who comes from light- flyweight who is not supposed to be in welter at that time, because he is from lightweight only "SKiPPing" junior-welter, to fight at welter-w.. you did not.. i know, its hard too lose weight, but its not also easy to be bloated in-order to be at that division.. DLH clearly stated after the fight that "Pac was the better man, he deserves all the accolades, he deserves everything that he has accomplish.." no tsk tsk tsk excuses... but sadly, many fans have their own opinion of "being old, dehydrated, not on prime".. ... If DLH beat Pac back in 08', will you also commend, or at least give credit to the small 5'6 and say "Pac is inexperience, small, bloated not on the elite lvl.. etc., REASONS?... I guess you will not, becoz u are DLH fan.

Oscar only lost to Mosley 1. Close with quartey. Close with Whitaker. Loss to Hopkins. A draw with gayweather. And a clear loss to Pac man. Basically Oscar finished with only 3 losses. 2 clear and 1 draw. He's a legend. Was robbed by judges and after Trinidad fight he was never the same. If he won Oscar would've beaten Mosley and went on undefeated. Cause nobody wanted that kid. He'd fucking destroy anyone. Boxing sucks now. The Ali, Tyson, de la hoya, gatti, Pac man eras are done. We're left with this bum gayweather who loves to run. Someone is gonna smash that bee. He don't deserve to be a boxing elite but he is a great defense dodger. No class or excitement.

It was definitely the end when he essentially gave up vs Trinidad. He was a beast but he just mentally never could stay up on the high level against Mosley, Hopkins’s, and Mayweather which was a close fight actually.

I always had a lot more respect for Oscar than any other fighter of that time because De LA Hoya fought everybody. Even when he moved up to middle he went right after Hopkins. I knew he wasn't going to beat Hopkins but at least he did try. Mayweather wouldn't try that.

De la hoya always fought the best. sure because of the money that he brings ,he doesnt have a hard time fighting all the great but he still fought them (tszyu is the only great fighter that i can remember that he never fought) the guy always looks for super fight. most of his losses during his prime are always close.

Agree. To beat Floyd you need to press him all night long and throw power shots. If you try to box him, he'll just outbox you...as he always does. Flailing his arms in panic defence (like against Oscar) but getting through it.

One of the many reasons I like Oscar is..well first..I have never seen a boxer called so many names..he's soft..he is gay on and on..but when he got in the ring they quickly found out the man had a heart of a lion..when you talk about great fighters of all time..Oscar is in the top 5..hands down.

De la Hoya came closest to beating Mayweather out of anyone Mayweather has fought in recent times! He did have a lot of bad luck in his career with his losses - at least 3 of them could (and maybe should) have been wins
