I'm glad so many of you love this. I can tell you from personal knowledge, this is Earle Patriarco singing, and he was VERY young to be singing this aria at the time. He was in his late teens or early twenties. He said they used the take where he was completely worn out and tired, which tells you just how talented he is. He's the best.

Yes.. he was very young.... I think 19.. we worked together at Miceli's in N. Hwd Know him and adore him.. I sang at his wedding reception.. Again, really care about him and haven't seen him since he went to the Met.

So, odd story. I saw this intro as a child. And for the longest time, I did NOT know where it was from.... Knowing little kid me. I probably only watched this intro, then went back to.... Whatever toddlers do.... I FINALLY decided to try and find this, just because the memory was bugging me. And... it feels so cathartic to finally find it. Thanks for uploading this.

The movie was a flop and Stalone concluded he would never do comedy again because of it. Having said that, I LOVE THE MOVIE. I thought it was so well done and very funny. It was one of my dad's favourite movies before he passed and always has a special place in my heart because of that.

Given the context of the film there is real irony in the use of this particular classical piece. Such as how there are a couple of lines in this area that talk about how the Barber of Seville (Figaro) is being called left, right and center by so many people. Old men, young men, women, children and soon. Basically everybody wants a piece of him. Just like what happens in the movie Oscar, the day "Snaps" Provolone (Sylvester Stallone) goes straight, EVERYBODY wants a piece of him. Thus the reason why this one section in the aria is so palpable: Figaro! Figaro! Figaro!, ecc. Ahimè, che furia! (Ah what a frenzy) Ahimè, che folla! (Ah, what a crowd) Uno alla volta, per carità! (one at a time, please) Ehi, Figaro! Son qua. (Hey Figaro! I'm here) Figaro qua, Figaro là, (Figaro here. Figaro There) Figaro su, Figaro giù. (Figaro up. Figaro down)

Gioachino ROSSINI - Aria "Largo al Factotum", from the opera "il Barbiere di Siviglia" (The Barber of Seville)
@Braziliense198417 жыл бұрын
Let me explain: Mozart made the opera "la nozze di Figaro" (the wedding of Figaro). It's different from this song here. This is "Largo al Factotum" from the opera "il barbieri di Siviglia" (the Barber of Seville), composed by Rossini. 'Figaro' is the name of the barber. Lardawan is right, but he's not polite.

@Braziliense1984 Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais's The Marriage of Figaro was very popular at the time: between 1782 and 1816, there were at least four adaptations, including versions by Paisiello, also from Naples, and Mozart. Rossini also adapted it, in 13 days

No. Actually Mozart wrote "La Nozze di Figaro" (The Marriage of Figaro). That's a completely different work from The Barber of Seville (here, Figaro is the name of the barber)
WOW! I use to record this opening alone on VHS when some channel showed this movie on tv. I think I recorded back sometime in the 90s. It didn't record the whole thing unfortunately est gdfgf.
