State prosecutor, Gerrie Nel, sought to portray paralympian Oscar Pistorius, as selfish, in his relationship with Reeva Steenkamp.
Pistorius is being cross examined in the North Gauteng High Court, over messages Steenkamp sent to him, weeks before he shot and killed her in February last year.

It is fascinating that the media is characterising Nell as brutal in his cross-examination. I don't see it like that. He has mostly been very patient with a volatile, argumentative and obstructive witness.

This asshole based on the way he answer/dodging the questions and make it difficult for the prosecutor sound to me he's 100% guilty. If he have nothing to hide...he should not have nothing to worry about and speak naturally and honestly. The fact that he makes it difficult says it all. Also a lot of things don't make sense. Let's just say he never seen his gf head to the bathroom (let's give him that), who the hell would just head to the bathroom with a gun without confirming that she's still in the bed? Every human being would say something like "honey, did you hear that?" "i heard a sound in the bathroom." This would confirm that your gf is with you before you're head to the bathroom to investigate (if you truly care about her). He clearly did not do that and can't invent a story like this because that would confirm she's with him. Also, if you have gun with you, what the hell are you afraid of?? And if you see the robber is in the bathroom...you would have turned on the light and wait and ask who's inside. And why the hell a robber want to hide inside a toilet lol stupid and locked LOL. And why would you shoot without asking who's inside? Any human would say...."who's inside?" when holding a gun. And clearly he realize if he said that, his gf would reply to him...so he can't invent that story. All these tell me this fool is a fucking liar. I think they had a big argument and she was scared of him and go inside the bathroom. He threatened to shoot her and he did with 4 rounds ....whether he intend to just hurt her or killed her..i don't know but clearly he doesn't care at that point due to absolute anger.

***** According to him, he didn't get the shotgun until he heard the person go in the toilet- he also banged on the door with a bat (according to him (and evidence)) prior to shooting through the door i.e. any alleged robbers would not have been scared by the clicking of a gun.
@Caramello98

His version, he did 4 rounds of bullets through door. Eventually he relished Reeva had not come to his aid by calling police as he had yelled out to her from the little hall. Had a fear that he may have been Reeva in the loo. Runs and gets legs and bat and gun runs back to bathroom to smash loo door down!

The duvet stuff is very incriminating. It was a hot night and they probably kicked it off the bed. It proves in his "version" that Reeva was not covered and he would have had a clear view of the empty bed when he was getting his gun to kill the "intruders". Why would Reeva be covered on a hot and humid night? I put it to you that his version never happened.

Thing is Reeva just may have slept under a duvet. My daughter sleeps in a king size very warm waterbed with flannel sheets and king-size duvet over her in 90d heat on 🔥 nights 😆 and her daughter sleeps the same way. Yes. Small examples, "As I've already said 3 times, milady, . . . " with exasperation slipping into his voice and "We addressed that yesterday . . ." Roux hammered and insulted witnesses (the neighbors, e.g.), asked them the same question endlessly, called them liars,denied that they knew what they were talking about (even when calls to police backed them up), and kept at the same thing forever. And they did not show arrogance and hostility, just steadfastness and firmness in some cases - and their lives weren't at risk.. OP's controlling it well, considering that he obviously considers himself above questioning by anyone, but his impatience and annoyance keep showing. He better remember he's not a big shot here and keep it to no more than he's showing now, but I bet before it's over Nel will have him showing that temper. No doubt that's the plan, too.
@egw6659

Can definitely hear the arrogance in his tone but what's so weird is that he's still trying to put on that "poor widdle me" boyish voice when he remembers to. The resultant effect is pretty bizarre. A body language expert Dr Denise Bjorkman wrote a piece for the Daily Mail about his body language in the court as he was listening to evidence. *Even then* she said he was lying and trying to stage his behaviour. At the time I read the article I was dubious but now hearing how much he tries to control proceedings from the dock I think it lends her findings credence.

I'm more interested in the important part. If Oscar is lying about the fans, his whole story falls like a house of cards. The cable of the two point extension plug looks straight to me, it couldn't of moved much at all except closer to the bed. I can't see the length of the fan cable in the photograph, so I can't see if that could've moved to that position. I wonder why he didn't question about the length of the cable of the other fan because yesterday he conceded that it must of been plugged into another plug point near the television.
@pps1fan

I'm hoping that Nel's got measurements to prove this because like you say it will show OP has been lying about the fans and his whole story will collapse...I feel that Nel must have evidence to show this otherwise I don't feel he would open this line of questioning...can't wait for tomorrow :)

Jono98806 Jono OP's case is ALREADY falling like a pack of cards. There is no way that the police would have a motive to tamper with so much evidence. Everything coming out of this man's mouth is a lie and Nel is going to nail him.

@pps1fan 10 жыл бұрын
ezekielthemack I have said it all along there is absolutely no reason why the police would have motive to tamper with so much evidence and OP has been caught out by his own lies too many times now...I feel so sad for Reeva's family and friends having to sit through all of this, especially with how OP has tried to twist that argument to blame her! Well done Nel for telling OP that he has only ever thought of himself not anyone else!
@Jono98806
@Jono98806 10 жыл бұрын
ezekielthemack Actually, nobody said that the police had an intention to tamper with the evidence in order to discredit Oscar's story. In fact they couldn't of done so because they didn't even know what his version was. I think that what they are arguing is that the police bungled the case and were reckless with the evidence by moving things around in his house. In other words, the tampering he's talking about was accidental but it was such that some of the objects moved around could of been important to the defence case. His defence has been arguing that from the beginning, if you look at all the discrepancies between the photographs that Barry Roux pointed out in his cross examination of the police photographer. Also, remember the onus is not on the defence to prove that their version is true. The onus is on the prosecution to prove that he's guilty. The significance of the fans is that they could prove that Oscar's version of events is a lie. Gerrie Nel still has to prove that Oscar had intended to kill someone but we'll still get there tomorrow.

I think OP not only has a hair-trigger finger but a hair-trigger mind. Zero to sixty in cars, guns, and temper. I believe his jealousy sent him into a rage, she challenged him, and he totally lost it. He's a narcissistic socio-path - who goes from sixty to zero when it comes to interpretations and remembering things. He's desperately trying to save his own skin, no matter what. I know someone like this.
@en23288
@en23288 10 жыл бұрын
All the psychobabble in the world won't explain this tragedy. What skin are you talking about? The skin that peeled off of Pistorius's stumps while he was out there running and training to make a good life for himself and the others who planned their futures on what he could deliver? " I know someone like this," you say.. Well ,'they know someone like you.' So what? The issues of this trial are circumscribed by what happened in that bathroom and how the applicable Law perceives it. The issues are not whether Oscar liked to be in the company of someone who chewed gum, or who spoke in annoying accents, or stroked his neck at times when he wasn't feeling too lovey... Geez people! There is a difference between 'thinking' and .' feeling.' The words are not synonyms and the process is not the same..

"Psychobabble" would explain why he did what he did. The term would be sociopath BTW and he is a classic- with the fake tears, the fake vomiting, the inappropriate looks he gives at times (angry), the public apology when it suits him, the making her death about himself and what he sees, feels, smells and hears every day. I'm not buying it when combined with the evidence and inconsistencies in his story (including him telling the security people that everything was OK when they called up about screams being heard). Why would he not tell them to call an ambulance? Why would he carry her downstairs near the front door to put on a show in front of the first person who came?

A little momentum today in terms of OP adding lots of new details to his testimony as he goes along (such as moving a duvet when he returned to bedroom to put on his prosthetics, such as placing fans up top of bed, not just inside balcony; and making out silhouettes and certain items but never Reeva, etc). There is clearly some invention, conscious or otherwise, in process, since no one will remember these kinds of things 14 months later. Will be interesting to see how many more embellishments are added as the questioning continues, and how many of these turn into inconsistencies...

the one thing about this case that does not make sense is that oscar said to nel i was shouting to reeva to phone the police even as he got to the bathroom. so if oscar pistorious is telling the truth is it not strange that reeva steenkamp did not shout out to him i'm in the toilet or say anything as he was shouting to her. very strange to me
@olejdi2092
@olejdi2092 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly, and we know that she was conscious in the toilet since - as Pistorious claims - he was woken up by noise coming out from there. I strongly believe that they had a fight, she run to the toilet (where the door was closed, it's also pretty crucial here, she closed it because she was afraid of him). She didn't want to let him in, so he took the gun and shot her. It was so difficult and frustrating for him to accept the fact that he couldn't get in, that he used force. Another interesting factor - he shot four times! and, according to experts,there was a delay between the shots. What does it tell us? When he shot twice she must had scream or groan, right? In this way he would find out that it was his girlfriend, not a burglar. I do understand that there is a lot of unlogical things that we do in our lives, especially under pressure or fear but here something is clearly wrong.. There are so many contradictions in his line of defence. He is most certainly guilty.

Oscar is not only blind, except for when he saw the dark jeans on the floor of this coal black room, but he is also deaf, except for when hearing the bathroom noises. He couldn't hear Reeva get out of bed and walk to the bathroom, even though he would have had to be within a meter/yard or so of her. In fact, the fans were so close, I wonder why she didn't bump into him when she stood up. He said the fan was actually in the door with 2 of its feet inside before he moved and it's only a couple feet from bed to door.

The issue about how well one can see in the dark in his room at night with the curtains fully closed and if its plausible that he could not see that she wasn't in bed or walking to the toilet should be resolved by taking the judge at night to his bedroom to see for herself. It is extremely hard to concoct a scenario that did not happen when the scene of the crime does not fit the description of events. The only thing Oscar can cling to is that the evidence was tampered with. Yet once again it is not plausible that so much was tampered with unless there was a conspiracy to frame him. I have a feeling this is what Roux is going to argue to explain how so much was tampered with. The question is what motive would Roux give for a conspiracy by the police? He would have to argue that the police had a strong grudge against Oscar. But leave all this, Oscar's biggest challenge is coming when Nel asks him why in the world would Reeva not react to his screams, thereby alerting him to her presence.

***** P.S. His account pushes it more towards her climbing across his side because if she slips off at the foot of the bed on her side, then that is already where he's moving fans and they are practically on top of each other; note the arc of his vision as he moves the fans also allows amble peripheral vision of the rest of the room, including the base of the bed and some area of the room between bed and corridor. Even with his back to the bed he must be looking at least roughly towards the amplifier in order to place fans there; the head is turning in that direction a couple of times and can never catch a glimpe of any movement when she leaves the room: despite movement being significantly prioritised by visual processing i.e. much more likely to be spotted by humans, just like any other animals.
@danielking9830
@danielking9830 10 жыл бұрын
***** P.P.S I would like to have them do tests of people climbing out of bed and leaving room while fans are moved to see if it is possible to slip out without being noticed and exactly what windows of time there are for this - while shutting curtains and blinds seems more likely to allow missed visuals but at the same time makes it darker for reeva so harder for her to move so quietly (plus the sound of the fans is not right in oscar's face any more). We then need tests of people moving around to get a gun without bumping into things and tests of how long it takes to walk along corridor, and tests of what you can hear when someone yells in corridor, whether it sounds like they are getting nearer or not, and tests of how fast a body can fall to put minimum time between the hip and shoulder shots; i don't know if the court will request time for any of these tests to be carried out but i hope they take it all into account one way or another...

***** We're all certain of it, including the judge. Besides, if it was pitch dark, then Reeva would have switched on a bedlamp when she got up to go to the toilet. He has chosen to describe a scenario that is impossible to believe. As your second post explains.
@danielking9830
@danielking9830 10 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah, even in the pitch dark the lack of sound of her moving in bed provokes the question "where's she gone." At that moment where he claimed it "all changed" and he whispers "phone police" to her he is on full alert and says she is uppermost in his mind, together with the 'threat' but he doesn't even wait to hear a sound from the bedclothes as he grabs his gun. I think we can all sense if someone is motionless in bed (no breathing noise even) when moving around one. You would also physically shake them in case they might have gone back to sleep, to warn them (and which is better than talking as it reveals less to intruders). He simply MUST be asked the question why he did not try to touch even her feet or a leg or something to offer reassurance in process of preparing for this 'confrontation'...quite simply from this point onwards he behaves in his narrative like a madman. I am frankly surprised he didn't plead it, too.

Whatever you think, this is fascinating, and I can't believe I'm getting up so early to watch. I wanted to shout through the screen at Nel when Roux objected, because there was evidence of an argument from one of the earliest witnesses for the prosecution, who said she'd been woken up by arguing and remembers being very annoyed because it went on for hours. Also, if OP was shouting to Reeva about intruders, wouldn't Reeva have shouted from the toilet, asking "What are you talking about?" and therefore OP would not have shot at the door. I'm afraid the noose is around his neck right now. I feel sorry for the boy, but he has to pay for what he did. Reeva deserves no less.

neandertalheroo It doesn't add up. You have to disregard ALL of the witness testimony to make OP's story plausible; security guard, five neighbours, 2 eyewitnesses to the sunroof shooting... If it really was an accident and he killed the "woman he loved" he would want to be punished and would be ashamed. He would have plead manslaughter and done some time. The man wants to walk scott free! He won't even admit to the restaurant charge or the charge of illegal firearms. I believe he behaved recklessly and thought he could buy his way out of a conviction in the SA court system. Maybe he didn't know firing at the door would kill Reeva and it got out of hand, maybe he's traumatised by confronting the gruesome results of his rage, but he definitely knew she was in there. "They stole my watch" has nothing to do with getting a gun and shooting into a confined area with someone on the other side. He is using all the police errors to his advantage, but there are more inconsistencies in his version from what I can see.

It isn't, in my opinion, either. Surely Nel will hit him on that. She would have had to all but knock him over to get up. Besides, he would have to be deaf, as well as blind, and have no sensation of movement or vibration as we do when someone is moving very near us. I don't know of any instance ever when I have gotten up without my husband or even a s a child, a visiting friend, knowing or that they got up and I didn't know, except when in deep sleep. Never, ever when wide awake in the room. If humans were as oblivious as OP would have us believe he was, evolution would have wiped us out long ago. Funny that Oscar didn't see, hear, or sense a lot of motion probably within his reach, but was terrified by a noise in the bathroom, isn't it?

They had a full on argument, he must have got really angry and threatened her. That’s why some of the neighbours heard shouting and screaming before the shooting. She must have run to the bathroom in fear, and locked herself in the toilet, to get away from him. He then followed her and shot her through the toilet door in a fit of rage. In another session when asked by Mr Nel what he said to Reeva while holding the gun in the bathroom, Oscar in fact said “why are you calling the police“? Nel never realised what Oscar said and continued. It is simply impossible that he could not have seen Reeva and more importantly that Reeva did not say a single word to him during the time she supposedly got up, went to toilet and the shooting incident. Lies, lies lies, lies all round!!! I don’t believe all the lies about their conversations, iPad story, the fans or anything he said. So many holes in his version of what happened. How is it possible that on the eve of Valentine’s Day that a loving couple spend the evening doing virtually nothing? Lies, lies, lies! Gerrie Nel absolutely destroys Oscar in this particular part of the trial, and it’s not the only time this happened!

rrhone Oscar is a very hot tempered controlling and jealous man. They were only together a few months and from their text messages he was a hand full. Something sparked a fight in his home and Reeva ran from him and locked herself in the toilet. He then made up a whopper of a story. He shot her out of anger and once he realized what he had done, not only to her but to his career he became very remorseful acting. It was a very long trial and way too much to explain, You could probably get more information on google. You will be amazed after watching his trial. I believe he is guilty.

Listening is a skill! Being objective is also a skill! Having an opinion is a right but abusing each other's views is partly what's wrong with society on a broader level. What's makes for good discussion is rational and reason. IF people have been following the case from the start until now they would know it's two watches missing. And if people stopped and listened they would hear OP is elaborating on his version. Simply watching a few snippets is not enough to base your opinions on. Neither Nel or OP have an upper hand its a trial this is how they take place. Leave the judging to the judge. Their are those who will understand what I'm saying and their will be those I'm sure that will not.

It is relevant. His legs were on the right hand side of the bed. The fan, curtains and balcony are on the right hand side of the bed too. Not it's an intruder! If the noise was a window, front door or back doors then I would think it's possibly an intruder. I have always been scared someone might break in and how would I defend my kids as in Australia we don't tend to have access to guns. I find another interesting factor in this case is the fact that while OP was 'challenging' the 'intruder' and, as he claims, was in great fear, why did he stand directly in front of the toilet door where the 'intruder' would burst out right on top of him? Or, stand directly in the 'intruder's' firing line if armed? Would it not have made more sense and also be instinctive to stand back around the corner using the wall as a protective shield? It's an automatic self-defense posture. For someone who is supposed to be concerned about his safety his story, once again, makes no sense. From the defensive position if the 'intruder' did burst out of the toilet he/she would be completely exposed while OP would have cover. So, why was, as we know as a certainty, OP standing directly in front of the door. I would suggest that it was for positioning when firing, i.e., aligning himself with the target he could hear on the other side of the door and was secure in knowledge that no threats were coming from inside the toilet.

***** I really don't have a view on how it will be judged. I don't know how the judge thinks. I'm not so sure that the prosecution is doing a bad job, we'll have to see where it goes. It seems Nell has achieved pretty much what he has set out to do so far. Yesterday's "Reeva is not here because of what you have done" was a particularly poignant moment along with "why did make the apology now?". Nell has also exposed OP's 'goody two shoes' as a myth with very little material. As I see it, it comes down to those witnesses. They all said they heard a very distressed female and the closest witnesses, Mr. and Mrs. Stipp, were particularly revealing. I buy their testimony and this is the principal reason for my assertion of his guilt. We'll just have to wait and see what else transpires. p.s. Nell also has an on going spelling out OP's behaviour and purpose. He's threading it into his cross examination which inch by inch discredits OP and his story.
