I counted at least 12 times that OP blamed his defense team when he tailored his evidence. Also his version is that the Glock went off by itself; that when asked from the first cross examination by Nel to the last, that he is never responsible for shooting and killing Reeva, that "he was terrified" and "did not have time to think [to do the right thing]". So at Taasha's he was responsible for the incident but never pulled the trigger. Here he took Reeva's life but is not responsible for killing her. What a joke! OP is petrified of jail nor does he want to go to jail and loves his freedom. He will say anything to stay out. Finally, when questioned he plays hero by saying he wanted to save and protect Reeva when he got his gun. He emphasises this at least eight times. These are rehearsed and canned versions.

(This is Isla's words and comment...well done Isla) testimony was like one long, agonisingly protracted kidney stone, breaking down millimetre by millimetre before ending up at the bottom of a toilet bowl, along with his credibility. I didn't keep a precise count, but I think Nel caught him attempting to mislead the court on 5 occasions. 1)On having the prosthetic socks directly in his hands, 2)on being present at the rapid sequence gunfire, 3)on having no idea of the progress of the trial given his superior tv-free lifestyle (the fact he tweeted about the case wasn't pursued) 4) on attempting to submit a photograph of someone kneeling as an accurate representation of Pistorius's height/visibility from the bathroom window, while knowing there was a 20cm discrepancy.5) on his communication and contact with the defence team. There's probably more I've forgotten, but those are the most blatant porkers I can recall. Add to that a string of half-truths, deliberate misinterpretations, and a consistent inability to recognise the magnitude of his own shortcomings as an 'expert,' and it all added up to give the impression of one hell of a slippery weasel. (This is Isla's words and comment...well done Isla)

When OP was on the stand, I was surprised as to how emotional he became when Nel was cross examining him than when his own council was. Typically, when a defendant takes the stand (rare as it may be), he/she is usually very emotional when their own attorney is questioning them and then they go stone-faced when cross examined. Just an observation.

If Dixon was supposed to test the lighting, he would have waited for a moonless night (as was the case on 2/14/13), turned on the balcony light, and then performed his test at 3:00 AM. Then he would have had an apples to apples comparison...assuming his sight is as keen as OP's. This isn't a given since "as you age, some decline in your senses is expected. Eyesight is often one of the first senses affected by aging." and "Age-Related Eye Change #1 The pupil becomes smaller and less responsive to variations in light. Impact: Because the pupil controls the amount of light that reaches the retina, age-related changes to the pupil may affect vision in many ways. First, as the pupil decreases in diameter, seeing well in dim light becomes harder. In addition, the less able the pupil is to adjust to varying light conditions, the less tolerable glare becomes and the more difficult it is to adapt from darkness to bright light or vice versa. This means as you get older, you may need more time to adjust to changing levels of illumination, such as going from bright sunshine into a dimly lit room or restaurant."

ancoloco No matter how hard one tries, it's impossible to make sense of Oscar's account. He and Reeva were in the same room, they spoke to each other. If there is a noise in the en suite bathroom the first thing any right thinking person would do is check to see if the other person is still in the room. The room is not that large - the bed takes up a lot of the space, it would be impossible for him not to know whether or not she was still in it and if he can't see or sense her presence in the room then he should have switched the blasted light on, not doing so because of fear is not a justifiable excuse if you are prepared to use a gun.

*GET OUT OF THE WAY when GOD is WARRING against EVILNESS!* *Biblical Principles for the Geologist..* written 4/19/14 (1:08 pm) Isaiah 31:3 New King James Version (NKJV) 31:3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; And their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the Lord stretches out His hand, Both he who helps will fall, And he who is helped will fall down; They all will perish together. ....and THAT'S what happened. The Lord Jesus Christ was warring against Oscar and the Geologist got involved and tried to interject, and GOD KNOCKED HIM DOWN along with ROUX and the DEFENSE TEAM. Now the Geologist has LOST his CREDIBILITY and WHY would they get a GEOLOGIST to TRY and be a WOUND BALLISTICS EXPERT? That just shows HOW (LOW) they had to go to try and MANIPULATE JUSTICE because Oscar's case is SO DAMNING. I'm NOT cursing. That's the appropriate word for the situation. Definition of damn·ing [ dámming ] proving guilty, wrong, or bad: proving or showing that somebody or something is guilty, wrong, or very bad highly critical: very critical or unfavorable Also, I am (NOT) prophesying this but IF the courts WERE to let Oscar go, KNOWING that he is GUILTY and he IS, this is what would happen according to the Holy Bible... 1 Kings 20:42 King James Version (KJV) 20:42 And he said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Because thou hast let go out of thy hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.

I'm not sure he will get 25 years they will have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that it was premeditated, I don't think Oscar set out or planned the killing in any way. Something triggered an argument which quickly blew up way out of control, I think Reeva said 'she had had enough of his control and sudden tempers and said she was leaving and not coming back'...this made Oscar see red and from that moment the whole thing then becomes a blur to Oscar as he grabs his gun, all this is happening in seconds not enough time for Pistorius to rationalize what's happening nor plan it...before he knows it he has let off four bullets...the reality of it then suddenly hits him and the temper has gone as quickly as it came. I think he will get about 10/11 years maybe out in 7...he needs some serious psychological help!!!.

when the defense finished their case,does anybody know when the judge gives her verdict?Is it a day after or on the same day the defense has finished presenting their case.?
@Jono98806
@Jono98806 10 жыл бұрын
No, it can take the judge months, going through the evidence following the end of the defence's case before she gives her verdict. Also, she won't just read out guilty/not guilty at the end for her verdict, she has to give reasons unlike juries who aren't required to. Expect her to spend weeks to months going through each piece of evidence and how she considered it before finally giving her verdict.
@erzug
@erzug 10 жыл бұрын
Since the trial won't be over until the defense has concluded presenting their dozen? witnesses, and Nel has cross-examined each and every one, I'm guessing the verdict won't be issued until June. Of course, with the two weeks off, the judge did say she'll use that time to review the testimony and other evidence, most likely with her two assessors.

@WarrenLevine
@WarrenLevine 10 жыл бұрын
Caramello98 Paula Whitlock Hypnotherapy, or even autohypnosis, would not create a reaction like Oscar curling up in a vertical fetal position, with his thumbs in his ears and his hands covering his eyes. I've had both types of hypnotherapy. For the first, I was to congratulate myself when I achieved a goal of the therapy each time it occurred; and the other was for anger management and concentration, the autohypnosis therapy, which still works 30 years later, and which I can invoke whenever I please by relaxing and performing a small physical action. There are no magic Trigger Words like in the movies, Just thoughts and Actions. No hypnotherapist could make him wad himself up like a three-year-old who was just told he can't eat that yummy, crunchy dog food. The fact is, Oscar is probably foreseeing his fairly near future, cuz while this case is on appeal, and the convictions will be appealed, he ain't gonna be out on bail, and his passports will become property of the Republic of South Africa's justice system once again.

even if oscar is 'innocent' (unlikely but) he has been so reckless that it shouldn't really make much of a difference to his punishment. and that one would imagine he would be so consumed with guilt he would do all he could to minimize a televised open scrutiny of the event in front of reeva's family etc. instead he stands up there and defends himself. with a new girlfriend on the scene also it really points towards a truly horrible individual.

Couple of days back he looked a little more battered and i thought he might be starting to accept somehow the process but now he just looks haughty and totally indifferent to it. Like once you've broken the tabu of killing someone you think yourself untouchable, answerable only to your own laws. My impression.

Unless people are woken up by the gunshots at 3am and missed the screams prior to that. But the question was more about her alleged screaming. 36MURPHY She had a very small amount of urine in her bladder, much less than there would be that would make a person want to go to the loo. Prof. Saayman said she had urinated about 30-60 minutes before her death. Her shorts weren't pulled down, even Pistorius himself said her shorts were pulled up (he can't really contest this... the bullet that struck her in the hip passed through the shorts, and it corresponds to the wound perfectly)... so she wasn't going to the toilet.

Is Dixon the main expert witness for the defense? Although I see his points in some situations I don't understand why you would come to court and not be prepared to present the evidence, why you wouldn't document every aspect of the test and exp. conducted and be able to recall the dates, time, place and test administered in a timely manner. I'm not saying his incompetent as an expert I believe is incompetent in organizational skills. Though I have to hand it to him if I was Dixon getting hammered by Nel I would probably be held in contempt with in 30 mins of cross examination from the prosecution.

Not that he's likely to enjoy it now as he's been sentenced to up to 33 years in prison for armed robbery but that's not the issue, he tried and succeeded !

I think Mr Dixon may have nighmares about this esperience for the rest of his life. I don't think he was too bad an expert witness. Nell would and will make any expert look like a blithering incompetant bufoon. We are all human and there is a limit to what any expert will be able to achieve in any given time and with given resources. But crtical was the fact that Dixon confirmed that the magazine rack was next to the toilet and not as OP testified, against the far wall, so that was a brilliant own goal for the defense.
@Sparrowdean
@Sparrowdean 10 жыл бұрын
Well he didn't command respect by referring to himself as a "layperson", failed to submit a comprehensive in-depth report, conducted unscientific tests, testified on areas such as blood splatter, ballistics, sound and pathology, where he had no expertise, did he? Yep, testimony about magazine rack sure was an own goal. My suspicion is that Oscar knows his case is weak so he's making spurious claims about the police contaminating the crime scene at every opportunity, in the hope that it might help his case.
@Zooney1
@Zooney1 10 жыл бұрын
Sparrow Dean Yeh I agree he did overstep the boundaries of his expertise. i wonder whether any of the other experts will fare any better though. They really must be quaking in their boots and frantically trying to imagine what traps Nell will set for them having now seen the pitbull in action!
@Sparrowdean
@Sparrowdean 10 жыл бұрын
Zooney1 Probably not, the state pathologist, Prof. Saayman, is very experienced and I can't see that the defence will be able to produce anyone who will contradict his findings. And if Richard Dixon was their star expert for ballistics, blood splatter, sound and investigative procedures, well he was a bit of an embarrassment wasn't he?
@Zooney1
@Zooney1 10 жыл бұрын
Sparrow Dean Very true. Nell could have gone more to town on Dixon's light analysis in the room especially his very empirical observations of placing his hand in front of his eyes to see whether he could see it. I mean Dixon must be around 60 and OP is 27. The questionning should have gone something like: So Mr Dixon have you determined how closely the light accommodation performance of your 60 year old eyes match those of the accused?

Daniel King: thanks for putting my thoughts (and anger @ OP) to print. I agree with you. I ended up watching this case because it is set in SA, during the 1980's here in the UK I and millions of others, campaigned against apartheid via boycotting it's product and Barclay's bank. I wanted to see this ego driven, middle class person put to justice, whereas in the past he would (most probably have gotten away with it) e.g. those terrible robbers he has tried to accuse as the reason for shooting - the us and them situ.

Typical of Nels impossible questionning was "was the sound recordist an expert in recording gunshot sounds?" The only answer can be "no m'lady". I guess there isn't much call for experts who soley record gunshot sounds. It probably wouldn't pay that well asa job. But he does have a point though as the very high decibel level of a gunshot sound would probably trigger an electronic limiter in the preamp recording circuit and so yes it may well have been electronically altered automatically. Maybe as well the initial high transient crack of the bullet wasn't in fact captured in the recording at all. So if the initial crack wasn't captured plus the pre-amp limiter came into play to cut the sound level to prevent distortion then the gunshot and the cricket bat sounds would sound similar on a recording whereas in real life they may be more easy to distinguish from one another. .

At this point, I don't think Nel has proven premeditated murder. Murder, possibly, but not premeditated. According to OP, his gun only goes off for real when he's at the range. All other times, it is an accidental discharge. When Dixon mentioned more than once yesterday that black talon ammo is hard to obtain, I expected the camera to focus on OP with him giving the viewing public a wink.

erzug So you are saying you agree with Dixon that you would see LESS of a person in a room opposite to a house if you were on the 1st floor, than if you were at street level. Kindly explain how... Also that magazine rack thing proves a bit awkward doesn't it, in terms of 'contradcitions'... Even Dixon says it was what Steenkamp fell back on to but Pistorius claims it was somewhere else in the cubicle, far away from where she fell. Impossible due to blood patterns on the leg and so forth...but who's right: Dixon or Pistorius. Hint: It's Dixon!
@AKLDGUY
@AKLDGUY 10 жыл бұрын
***** Your question is to erzug, but let me answer. I believe you've got what Dixon said back to front. Dixon took his photo (from street level) of his assistant posing on his knees in the bathroom. He was forced to take the photo from there because a new house now blocks the view from the neighbour's first floor. Nel ridiculed this simulation because the assistant on his knees was approximately 200 mm shorter than Pistorius would have been on his stumps. However, from street level the assistant's head and shoulders would indeed have appeared lower than Pistorius's would have appeared to the neighbour in his house on the first floor. Anyway, as Dixon pointed out, this simulation was never intended to exactly demonstrate how Pistorius would have appeared to the neighbour. Dixon explained that the presence of the assistant was only to demonstrate the relative size of a person appearing in the window.
@danielking9830
@danielking9830 10 жыл бұрын
AKLDGUY No Dixon definitely said that you would see MORE of the person from street-level. His exact wording was that "they would appear higher up" so you'd see more of them... Glad you agree it's a nonsense! I think what he's saying is that from street level you would see more of the ceiling?!...but clearly less of the person inside the room. Clearly!

Not so on the acting lessons, according to Anneliese Burgess, media manager for the Pistorius family. When you think about his performance, what self-respecting actor would admit to having tutored him in the fine art of woeful crying and barfing?
@danielking9830
@danielking9830 10 жыл бұрын
They could both be right, in a way. One of Pistorius' friends might have suggested it would be a good idea to cool it in court, not get argumentative like he normally is, perhaps roleplayed the cross-exam a bit, and then might have mention this in passing to the journo who thought "ooh! scoop here. it's my moment to shine and get lots more blog hits." it's not the same as lessons on how to 'emote'. He does overact i reckon but if anything it makes him seem more unstable and more capable of blowing a fuse and killing a girl so if it was coached it was a bad idea. If he's so god-damned upset about what he did then why plead not guilty? I don't think the judge will be impressed tbh as she probably got a picture of what he's like outside court from snippets and it certainly is not meek & tearful. He just feel sorry for himself i think.

OP said the magazine rack was moved before the first photos were taken, which should be of a pristine crime scene - nothing moved. Dixon, of course, supported the prosecution case that the magazine rack had not been moved and was right next to the toilet all the time. What other evidence was moved? Nel proved that camera angle caused the distortion that the cricket bat had been moved in the bathroom earlier. What else?
