Lego movie not being nominated was a travesty, it was a beautiful film that was completely unique and in a genre of its own. It should have won best animated picture but somehow didn't even get nominated.

brohoelikeacholo And you honestly thing that the Lego movie was a shoe in for best animated picture? That is is so much better than all of those nominees? Boxtrolls aside (which was most likely nominated because they wanted a stop-motion movie in the mix), I can see all of them win and wouldn't complain about it (Though I secretly hope that one of the traditional animated movies will take it this year).

Who got screwed ? Christopher Nolan got screwed !! BUT It's not because I'm Batman. It's because he's the director the world deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So they'll screw him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our favourite director. He's a silent artist, a watchful mastermind. A fucking genius.

Biggest snub,Interstellar.The academy usually doesn't nominate movies with great impact on the audience or the society,they are nominating movies that Oscar-bait and 10 years from now nobody will care about,thats why!!
@JohnSpawn19 жыл бұрын
I can assure you that 10 years from now people (film fans, critics and filmmakers that is) will still care about The Grand Budapest Hotel, Birdman, Whiplash and Boyhood. Interstellar received comparably mixed responses from both critics and audiences. Just go back to listen to the Screenjunkies movie fight debate of the film and you'll see it's true (despite the high imdb rating). Interstellar (along with Dark Knight Rises) is what sparked that whole backlash against Nolan including its silly focus on plot holes.

admittingly these movies are quite good but each one for some categories.Interstellar for great all around and deserved at least a best picture nomination.Yes I know there were mixed reviews but most of those that I have watched straight up didn't get many things or the whole concept of the movie.That is why this movie will hold up it is not just an entertaining medium but rather will make you think!

Also not for nothing, but why the hell has Pride not got more recognition?? That's the modern Full Monty/Billy Elliott right there! It seriously pisses me off that the Oscars and the Golden Globes have such a USA-centric attitude that awesome international films like Pride get snubbed while frigging social experiments like Boyhood get hailed.
@stevesb979 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on Gyllenhaal, but Cooper absolutely deserved a nomination. He transformed for American Sniper. Kyle's own family commented on how striking it was.
@saraelizabeth81919 жыл бұрын
Miles was great, but he didn't get snubbed from best actor. Maybe a snub from golden globe but not oscar snub. All five of the best actors were amazing. They all portrayed different characters and not one performance was the same. Benedict didn't play himself, and his performance was amazing, even just the last scene. Though I can see that he played a version of his Sherlock. Bradley cooper has proven himself as an actor and his performance was the best part of the film and in each of his three oscar nominated performance, his characters are completely different. Steve's performance was totally underrated. Dans comment that he just put on a fake nose and talked funny just backs up my point that people don't know his performance. Steve deserved that nomination because he completely lost himself in that role. I have never been scared and on the edge of my seat because of a Steve movie, but this movie made me nervous of what was going to happen next. He was fantastic and didn't rely on his comedic side. Michael Keaton was fantastic, and he worked very well with all of the other actors. You could argue that the movie and his performance was an ensemble film, but his performance of a washed up actor was so realistic. By the end you either love or hate this character, and you are also trying to figure out all of the layers of this character. And finally, Eddie's performance. He really only talked during the first have of the film. The rest of the film was just him acting through body movements. He had complete control over every muscle in his body. David and Jake's performances were snubbed, but this was a very hard year for best actor and best supporting actor. Rant over lol

The Lego Movie is a trademark film done right. Not only did it have characters that were funny and that developed but also a story that felt like an adventure. And that climax with The Man Upstairs was done so well it made me feel something. Sure I can say The Book of Life was great and How to Train Your Dragon 2 was also terrific all of which are true but The Lego Movie managed to impress me by being just as engaging as either one of those.
@Mika209 жыл бұрын
I agree completely. To me that was a really touch category because the movies were great. Deep down, I was shocked I even loved the Lego Movie. My cousin had me watch it and little did I know, I was very impressed. Sad it didn't get nominated when it really should, and should win. If a tie was possible, Lego Movie and How to Train your Dragon 2 in a heartbeat. If one, Lego Movie.

Again, Dan is the only deserving winner. Dan is the only panelist who consistantly provides solid points to his arguements that anyone can understand and agree with, even if we do not fully agree with his choice. Most of the other panelists arguements consist of "I think ____ because that's what I like, and that's what I want to see". And watching as an unbiased viewer, it's very hard to understand their arguement when it is so personal and biased. Dan always explains his choice logically, and even if you don't agree, he makes a very solid arguement. Through out many episodes he is robbed of points by other ridiculous answers, and I don't blame him for "pouting", he must find it hard to believe that such fandom fueled answers beat his much better thought out arguements. Bravo Dan, keep up the good work, deservingly the unbeaten champion as he is head and shoulders above the rest of the panelists as a debator. On a side note, I understans the judge choosing others in certain rounds to keep things interesting, because if he always chose the best argued answer, Dan would just walk all over the rest. It would be interesting if they could bring someone else who could provide a very solid logical fight, to actually give Dan a run for his money fairly.

@Vebinz9 жыл бұрын
It doesn't have to follow the book. The masterpiece that is "Blade Runner" hardly follows the book too.
@krisdwooddeux9 жыл бұрын
The only way it followed the book better was using the squirrels instead of the geese and the title of the movie. Otherwise it still only had one parent for each child (which works better cinematically but doesn't follow the book better than the first.) and it added those crazy unnecessary flashbacks. I like the idea of getting Willy Wonka's backstory but not the one they gave to him. And I love Johnny Depp and I don't blame him for screwing up the character cuz I'm sure they told him to portray the Willy Wonka, but I don't think Willy Wonka is a child in an adults body the way they made him seem. He's an adult who is somewhat insane and inventive and just because he works in a chocolate factory that doesn't mean he's a child. It deserves any hate it gets. I feel bad that Depp and Freddie Highmore have to be associated with that film forever now. Freddie was the cutest little Charlie but what he brought to that role were completely overshadowed by the rest of the nonsense in the movie. Yes the book is nonsense but it's lovable Roald Dahl nonsense and the movie didn't have the Tim Burton flare it needed. It was over the top but not in a good way. Sorry for the huuuuge reply but those are my thoughts as someone who's favorite movie as a child was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Plus it was a musical so it's obviously better! :)

My favorite movie fighters are: 1) Dan Murrel (He always makes the best arguments and is the most competent) 2) Spencer Gilbert (Also competent and quite funny) 3) Mark Ellis (Just funny as hell) So bring them more often! I think this show should more often have a female fighter. There were too less women on Movie Fights. I can only remember Alison Haislip, but I think there were also others, but not many. What do the other screen junkies fans think about my ranking? Any other opinion?

I don't have an opinion on 2 and 3, but Dan is by far the best. He makes competent arguments using logic while everybody else uses subjective statements and tries to pass them off as actual arguments. It sounds crazy that you can make arguments on film without an obtuse amount of subjective statements but Dan does that very well. I always feel like he is cheated when he loses. I watched and loved Beetlejuice and have not seen the movie that Dan discussed, and yet he sold me on it much more than they did with Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice isn't a complex character and I can imagine a lot of people in that role and succeed with it.

I do agree that The Lego Movie should have, without a doubt, have been nominated. Stop motion animation is incredibly underappreciated, and making stop-motion legos is very unique and interesting, but, sadly, the Academy is just a bunch of stuffy assholes who are about as corrupted as it gets. But one thing that does bother me is your guys' brushing over of How To Train Your Dragon 2. That movie was a masterful work of animated art. The amount of detail in every little thing was astounding. The amount of research that went into it was mind-blowing. If you don't understand what I mean, go watch the movie again. And if you still don't understand what I mean, then you might want to go to an optometrist.

i completely agree with you while lego is awesome and deserves to get a nomination i think how to train your dragon deserves to win equally as much as lego to me how to train your dragon two was a complete film it had comedy romance and drama its a very relatable cartoon it has themes of adulthood that still caters to kids i loved that movie and i think it deserves to win
@swanpride9 жыл бұрын
That Stop motion is underappreciated is most likely the reason why it WASN'T nominated. Between the eight movies which got this year an annie nomination, there are four which I can see the winning the oscars (even if Song of the Sea has only a off-chance). The question was most likely which got the fifth spot...another CGI movie or the be stop motion movie of the year. Hence the Lego movie was left out (but got a best song nomination) and the Box-troll got the nomination. Now, if the Boxtrolls actually wins, THIS would be an upset. But the Lego movie not getting nominated? Surprising, but only because it is so popular.

I saw Birdman, Boyhood, GBH, and some other contenders for best picture in 2015; I really feel that Birdman was objectively brilliant and so different that it definitely deserved the win it got over its competition. Boyhood was an impressive achievement, but it felt meandering and lacked any narrative focus really. It was just kind of like, "here's life and growing up" and honestly it was pretty banal. This was intentional of course, but it also kept it from being a great movie in my mind because great movies have to tightly control and focus on how a story unfolds to make a point or move the audience. GBH was fun and had a cool atmosphere, and I'm glad the one panelist pointed out the changing of the aspect ratio because I completely missed that. But the truth is it just wasn't in the same league as the other two films. Birdman was experimental, had like an hour + single camera take, and did a funny and moving meta analysis of Keaton's career and by extension the work of all artists who struggle to make something meaningful and leave a legacy behind while dealing with critics. Acting and dialogue were perfect and the idea was so original. My friend and I were very pleased that it won best pic.

I'm a teacher, so I've seen this movie more than anybody ever should because I've often used it in class, and it's STUNNING. I wish the academy would recognize other genres besides drama. Every year it's only dramas or indie films that get nominated for best picture. They're allowed to nominate 10 movies yet they only nominate 8. I honestly thought dawn of the planet of the apes and days of future past had a good shot. Lord of the rings was probably the last blockbuster film that one best picture. This is outrages, it reminds me of when slumdog millionaire won best picture yet TDK didn't get nominated. And wtf is up with Lego movie not getting nominated?!
