Over thirty odd years since Hoffman made that speech, it is still deeply emotional and meaningful. Love the look on Jack Lemmon's face after the speech was made, it tells you all you need to know about the great man.

And notice how he was going around hugging and kissing other actors and actresses, including fellow nominee Jack Lemmon, before going on stage. He sincerely seemed to want this to be about all of them, not just him. He did the same thing when he won again nine years later, in 1989.

This movie came out around the same time my wife of seventeen years decided to "go find herself". I was left with my ten year old son. So this movie drove a stake in my already broken heart. The bright side of it though, I kept my son and raised him with the help of family members.

One of my favorite acceptance speeches of all time. The greater the actor, the greater his humility. His ‘we are all in this together attitude’ reflects on his decency as an individual and as an artist. Although actors often are in competition with one another, they basically all go through the same agonizing process of being prepared for years for an opportunity that may not come. That is why I respect the acting profession so very much. And I am one of those audience members who wish I had the capability and gutsiness to do the same. Behind all the hoopla, glitz and often phony glamour, are some very real people who are truly gifted.

Bay is Bae the Oscar ceremony was political long before it may or not be nowadays. Just two years prior to this ceremony, Vanessa Redgrave was booed for her political statements. In 1973, Marlon Brando refused his Oscar and sent a Native American woman to refuse on his behalf.

His acceptance speech was very funny, intelligent, and very moving. I enjoyed Dustin Hoffman's performance in "Kramer vs Kramer". His acknowledgement of the other nominees was amazing and incredibly touching.

Wow! I've still got tears in my eyes 2 minutes after listening to Dustin's acceptance speech. Tremendously humble, witty and candid. We don't realise how many actors never make it. I haven't watched Kramer v Kramer for many years, not since the first time. To some of us, and we are many, this movie is one we can relate to more than most. Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Peter Sellars, Roy Scheider. The great days of Hollywood!

A few years before this he famously called the Oscars "obscene, dirty...no better than a beauty contest." So there ya go

Normally most of these acceptance speeches feels like the person is reading a script. This one came from the heart. He is a class act.

Wow! At first I wasn't sure where he was going with that but it brought me to tears cuz he is right. No one person wins alone. They are part of a family of people that make these pictures.

None of the kids growing up in this age, where their lives revolve around social media and instant gratification, will be able to grasp the point made in this speech. Fame and self-recognition means nothing without the selfless acts made by the people behind the scenes. In light of this statement, thank you mom and dad for sacrificing your futures so that I could have mine.
