The very next year Russell Crowe would win for Gladiator in 2001, and a year after that Denzel Washington would win in 2002 for Training Day. Just skipping a year, Sean Penn would win for Mystic River in 2004. What a coincidence!

no, I call it karma biting me on the knee for bypassing Washington in favor of Spacey on my prediction sheet with the end result being a three-year slump in Best Actor. after Penn's win, it has been rosy sunny ever since with 15 years, 13 names for my record...for now.

Alexandre 6978 Agreed. I don't hold an actor's personal life against their movies. I'm pretty much the same way about politics, although when athletes get involved it kinda drives me crazy because they're doing it at the actual game whereas a celeb will tweet as opposed to putting it in an intro at the start of their movie. I can't hold it against Spacey though, he's been part if my life too long.

With this win, Kevin Spacey joins an elite club of actors who won Oscars for both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. The only others who achieved that standing at that point were Jack Lemmon, Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson and Gene Hackman, while Denzel Washington would join this club two years later when he won for "Training Day".

Yes, and don’t say it’s so sorry for him that he never received proper recognition at the Oscars, although I really like Kevin Spacey’s performance in American Beauty, she’s number 1 for me, but Farnsworth deserved the award more in terms of total merit, and yes, and he gave a touching game, he could have been given an award because many knew that he had not long to live and it would be possible in this way to cheer up the good old man . In my opinion it was truly robbed from Richard Farnsworth on sheer merit. The fact that he delivered an outstanding performance whilst in physical (and assumedly emotional) pain due to his advancing bone cancer, makes this loss gut wrenching to watch. This is the second, and last time he'll ever win an Oscar. His life is totally ruined right now, people are gonna pretend he never existed. But I wont, I still will know him as one of the finest actor of his generation and that's how I will remember him until he dies. Is hard to acknowledge that this fine man, is supposed to be a rapist and a pedophile, and then everyone forgets all the great job and good memories in all of us (that sounds bad, I know), but to me, one reason why he was so admired, is because of his talent, and as far as I know, many wanted to work with him. It's a shame what happened to him, is not denial, is just unbelievable. But I will always remember him for his work in the industry. Not his scandals, as many others in the industry have had. But I guess is how MatPat said in his Tide Pods video: Bad news sells more than good news...

Thinking about it now, I don’t think they were.” “I’m sure I went home and drank that night. I had to,” Washington said about his reaction to losing. “I don’t want to sound like, ‘Oh, he won my Oscar,’ or anything like that. It wasn’t like that. And you know, there was talk in the town about what was going on over there on that side of the street, and that’s between him and God. I ain’t got nothing to do with that. I pray for him. jogodoido1 ...SO TRUE , I still remember that day, I was so angry for the big mistake of handing the trophy for the wrong actor. Denzel Wasington was MAGNIFICENT, in The Hurricane !! He definitely worth it, not just the Gloden Glob but also the Oscar ! Training day...wasn't so good as The Hurricane. Also, Kevin Spacy was better by far, in Usual Suspects or The Insider not in American Beauty.

Mihaela Stoica I’m going to respectfully disagree and say that both where just okay in each movie, both of which where just okay. American Beauty is so pretentious and Hurricane is a terribly edited mess. Why not Tom Hanks for Green Mile, or Ed Norton for fight club?

This oscar should be retroactively taken away and given to Richard Farnsworth, considering he was dying from cancer and in so much pain in The Straight Story but delivered an incredible performance, the fact he later shot himself shortly after the oscar ceremony because of his pain and suffering is so tragic. RIP. And thank you David Lynch for giving him one last role that was possibly the best of his entire career.

Kevin Spacey - American Beauty. For me, as a lover of movies of many kinds. I simply love films. This film is exceptional. Its truely a one off movie...and its characters like Carolyn are so like people I know and how unhappy they are. And Lester is almost a hero as he sees beyond the middle class trappings and artificiality of suburban life. Theres more to fill your life with than stuff...and American Beauty helped me to understand and realise it. Its a magnificent film. Long live AB!

Yes, I have. A pedophile is exclusively attracted to prepubescent children (i.e children under 10) according to both the dictionary and the DSM. Kevin is not. Thus far, all of the allegations against him have come from young ADULT men, so he doesn't fit the description.
@Erin-ce5gs
@Erin-ce5gs 7 жыл бұрын
Except he hasn't raped anyone. From what I've read, the most he's been accused of is groping people, which, while inappropriate and wrong, is nowhere near the same as rape. If you're referring to the Rapp incident, all Kevin supposedly did was slump on top of him in a drunken haze. Rapp pushed him off, said no and left. Hardly assault.
