I've been flying for a few months now on a used setup and just started buying parts to build my own quad. i picked up the RROSDV2 after a lot of research, i'm paring it with an XRacer F303 and while the XRacer has a really beginner friendly user manual. the RROSD does not. i'm not completely sure where everything is supposed to go or if i'm supposed to bridge any pads together.

No love for the PowerOSD? They recently came up with an updated version so I'd really like to know how it compares. Also, it's probably worth mentioning that the Passado (as of this video) only comes in a fixed 600mw version which makes it useless for racing and flying with any sizable number of friends. Although, FuriousFPV did assure me that they will be coming out with 25mw and 200 mw versions. I do hope they'd come out with at least a 25/200mw switchable version though. That would give more flexibility for a mixed freestyle/racer quad.

@haikufpv96598 жыл бұрын
My favorite is the Matek HUBOSD. It has very similar specs to the RROSD v2, but costs about $16. No mwosd, no pass through, but big easy to read text that shows time, volts, amps, and mah consumed. All you need and nothing you don't
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
I left the HUBOSD out of this one because I have had too many questionable experiences with it. Now that's a little unfair because there are at least two different HUBOSD products, and maybe they're not all the same. But in two separate cases--two different OSD boards on two different copters, built several months apart--the OSD had a software glitch where it wouldn't show the correct data on screen. This was fixed by a software update. In another case, the OSD simply didn't work at all and the board had to be replaced. Finally, I have not personally experienced this, but I have heard reports that the voltage regulators on the HUBOSD are sometimes not reliable.
@haikufpv96598 жыл бұрын
Joshua Bardwell I haven't had an issue (yet) on the five builds where I've used the HUBOSD, but I will concede those are all good points I have heard from other pilots. I suppose it's a YMMV situation, and you get what you pay for when you opt for a $14 - $17 pdb/osd combo that your copter relies upon. I'll continue to fly them until they die, but I love new stuff and I'm going to try an RROSD v2 on my next build
@krittur71778 жыл бұрын
Every Hubosd board I have gotten has had issues. Ive had one short out and not display video anymore, but most of them the OSD fails about 5 seconds into flight and I get those arrows on the left hand of the screen. I think its because I run 5s batteries and motors that dish out a lot of amps, yet ive never really exceeded the HUBOSD amp limit. Would you say the HolyBro is more reliable? An OSD with mAh reading is a priority for me.
@haikufpv96598 жыл бұрын
Lol it seems like my positive experiences with the HUBOSD are atypical. I do plan to try the new RROSD though, because I agree that my number one concern is mah consumed. Voltage is secondary, amps are tertiary. I honestly don't care about time, but if it's there, so be it. Nothing more though, anything else is just too much to look at
@krittur71778 жыл бұрын
Haiku FPV I agree I like my OSD simple, thats why I was drawn to the Hubosd. But for my set ups they have just always been a struggle for me. The times it does work I love it, but there is just no consistency

Happy with just the Foxeer arrow V2. Might be me but I don't see a need for anything more than the battery voltage and time to be displayed.
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
I strongly prefer to have current readout on my copters. A reduction in mAh drawn from a battery is the best way to know that the battery's health is declining. And amp draw is a good way to assess prop, motor, and battery performance.

BoneR FPV at the moment I agree arrow v2 and then mah on the taranis audio warning telling me when I'm low. I have furious kombini fc's so the furious osd vtx would be a nice touch but maybe not enough of an improvement at $60 each!

Is keeping the power distribution circuitry separate from the video circuitry a common design goal? The products reviewed suggest it is not. Perhaps it should be. I would think the ideal setup would be one board with PDB and current sensor, and one board with an FC with built-in OSD, or an FC and a separate OSD. This is all a little bit confusing, because there are also issues with OSD/FC compatibility, right? I do not have OSD at all, but I want it.
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
No, it is not a common design goal. And well designed boards combine video and power no problem.
@joethestack38947 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your answer. On my setup I had video interference that was substantially annoying. I tried 2 or 3 different LC filters on the cam and vTx power, and put a cap on each ESC, and these things reduced the interference a little at best. Then recently I installed a fatshark filtered vTx power supply that connects to the battery balance plug, and voila! the interference disappeared. The only filter on it is a capacitor (by visual inspection). So evidently in my case using a separate tap to the battery avoids transmitting or propagating the noise that must be coming from the ESCs, and the cap probably helps even though there are already caps on each ESC. The cam is not powered by it. I'm considering adding an OSD somehow, so I've been wondering whether video interference would be an issue again, like with the minimOSD which is reportedly very sensitive to noise. And with a PDB/OSD I have the same worry, because that board would be connected directly to the ESCs, the cam, and the vTx.

Heads up on the UBAD VTx....I own the entire current LaForge product line and I have had nothing but issues with the VTx. First one came with some sort of defect that made it want to light on fire and was an RMA after waiting a month the company I purchased it from had it replaced (not their fault on the wait, supply from UBAD is slow) and the second one I got came defective as well, luckily just in the OLED strip which I can live without. Was pretty bummed about this as I see UBAD as a boutique manufacturer of quad products much like Flyduino and the likes. Oh well maybe this one has be revamped, but I wont give it a try.
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
I believe that this is not the same vTX design as the current one. For example, this one doesn't have the IR sensor on it. But I can't be sure of that. Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with UBAD's hardware. I know they're not perfect, but I have the impression that they're pretty solid most of the time, and take care of their customers when they screw up.
@ShoreStudios8 жыл бұрын
This is good to hear they could have addressed any issues, it does look like a different PCB then V1, does it still run on 5V only? Once everything was sorted out the performance of the VTx is great, I haven't had an issue using my goggles as the IR blaster as a bunch of people have commented on, but hey you can't win on everything. The diversity module on the other hand holy crap, it makes up for all the problems I have had and keeps UBAD on my radar, definitely wont write them off.

FC's with built in betaflight OSD (like the Omnibus) is a godsend!, lost count on how many minimosd and micro minimosd's I've fried, not to mention how sensitive to voltage spikes they were, not wiring the grounds right and the osd would drop out at rapid motor rpm changes. Makes me wonder though why no one has integrated an OSD into like a vrx module that could use telemetry data from your tx, you wouldn't have to wire OSD on every single quad either.
