Have you ever had a close encounter with a wild animal like this?? Shiretoko is a hotspot for bears because much of the peninsula is totally unspoiled. We were lucky to see them and lucky to come away unscathed! 🐻😬

Does holding an Australian koala bear at a zoo count?
I saw the wild bear's face and understood. He thought, "Wow! Wild people playing at the waterfall! Watch out, my babys!"

Wow wow! What an amazing encounter! And the onsen waterfall was so cool! We saw one little baby bear in Shiretoko but only for about 2 seconds haha so it was so cool to see it through your experience. Thank you for sharing!

I wonder where mama was at! I’m stoked that you both got to see one (even if for a brief period!) too though, it really elevates the whole Hokkaido experience to another magical level!
So many people trying to get even a _glimpse_ of a Yezo brown bear, and you got to spend long minutes (relatively) close to a whole family with two (cute as) cubs!... so lucky! I think it was because on that very steep slope that road was the best(/only) way to pass. I would _definitely_ NOT want to be on that section of road on a bike, that guy was mad. And then that stunning thermal waterfall, awesome day indeed, hope you topped it up with some equally amazing Hokkaido food + beer. Subarashī 🍺.🙏

Living the ultimate Hokkaido DREAM! 😭🙌 We really we’re incredibly lucky. It’s hard to believe that they were nimble enough to make it up the mountainside, but lunch on flat ground is probably motive enough! There are so many motorcyclists that tour around Hokkaido because the roads are so open and beautiful, but it’s stuff like this that makes me thankful that our version of “freedom” comes with 4 walls and 6 wheels 😅😅

Such a perfect day for you both with the family of bears and the waterfall. Did you manage to speak to the motorcyclist about their close encounter?
@OshareJapan2 жыл бұрын
It really was magical! The motorcyclist possibly didn't feel up for taking a dip after his encounter, because he scooted off quickly after we arrived. I'm not sure I blame him!

OMG! This was so much fun to watch! Bear found his nature fam! XD We've swam at Looking Glass Falls a few times and it is super cold 🥶and really deep! I bet that warm waterfall felt nice! ^^ Lol, at my house the only wild animals I see are squirrels, opossums and raccoons lol At my parent's house (out in the country) they get turkeys, foxes, tons of deer, and sometimes a bobcat. Now... up at my gma's mountain cabin? We'll see turkeys, deer, groundhogs and foxes... but we had a bear come up to the bird feeders looking for food while my mom was reading on the porch. She quietly retreated into the house before it noticed her, lol but it was less than 4 metres away! 😱 I've heard that black bears tend to be less aggressive than grizzly bears, but I wouldn't wanna meet one to find out lol Hope y'all are well! ^^ I can't believe y'all are almost at 15k subscribers! HOLY FUZZ! Congratulations! 🎊 💕💕💕

@@OshareJapan not gon' lie, it's a little Cabin in the Woods. And if you've ever seen that movie, well, it gets pretty spooky around there. 😰 In fact I'm up there right now! We finally got internet so I can watch y'all's videos while I'm on holiday. 💕 Y'all are welcome to visit, y'all just gotta make the epic trek over here. (Although I will warn you, I saw a coyote earlier, and I counted about 60 vultures. I don't know what happened, but apparently there's some good eatin in the woods. And to be honest? I don't want to know LOL 😂😂 ) Otherwise it's pretty quiet and lovely. 💕 if y'all ever decide on a US tour after your epic journey through Japan lemme know - there are so many cool things to see here.

I was expecting it to be like that too (although I hear that's also just deceptive because of the angle people take the pictures at..)! Also, just wait until someone talks about spiders and clouds in the same sentence 🙃🙃

What a lovely unexpected encounter! To those who are travelling to Japan, if you come across bears on roads, do not stop the car close to bears for filming. Keep a distance and wait untill they reach a side of the road as these guys did or pass by witghout slowing down the car. A mother bear of 3 cubs appeared in a youtuber's video and whatever the cause was, she was eventually killed as having frequently sited in a residential area of Japan. Unnecesary interactions with wildlife cause frictions and very harmful to residents.😢 kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXTMdmCcftmGobM

Great advice! The park is their home and we were but visitors! It's so sad to hear about the mother bear 🥺. Reading this reminded me of something I read about a bear and her cubs that chose to live close to humans for their protection and apparently it was quite a harmonious relationship. I'm sad to hear the same can't be said on this occasion 😔 I hope her cubs will be okay..

Bear meat is a delicacy in some parts of Japan? I have eaten at a restaurant in USA, its very much like fatty beef
@OshareJapan2 жыл бұрын
Oh absolutely! We saw some advertised in restaurants in Gifu Prefecture (though the bears there are a different kind) and bear meat is an Ainu delicacy. I don't think it's so common to eat it these days - it's definitely seen as a novelty for toursits in some parts - but you can find it if you look in the right regions! (Ps thank you for the food report, I was curious about the taste haha)

Are there any restrictions on having bears as pets in Japan?
@OshareJapan2 жыл бұрын
To be honest, Japan is one of the most "free" countries in terms of exotic pet ownership, and I know that the indigenous Ainu used to raise bear cubs for sacrificial purposes, but I'm pretty sure it's a grey if not red area nowdays (I tried searching, but didn't find much about it tho 💦)
