Ruby looks at things in comparison to her past life where she was so limited, so she knows how tough an idol’s life can be and is fine with it. Meanwhile, Aqua objectively thinks Ruby deserves a better life than that so he tried to steer her toward what he thinks is better, all while still trying to find and get revenge on their father.

Something I think people fail to mention about Ichigo is that he was also Ai's adopted father for 8 years and probably grew to love her like a real daughter (similar to how Miyako originally didn't care for taking care of Ai's children, but now sees them as her own). So, as an anime-only, I imagine he is going through it right now, probably even worse than Aqua to be honest. Although that's just speculation. Edit: fixed Ichigo's name

I definitely agree with you in that both Ruby and Aqua seem more different than traditional isekai shows where rather than acting totally like their old selves, they seem more like Ai's children who have inherited memories of their past lives. It's a subtle nuance but I think it only drives home more how impactful AI was to them, how close knit they were as a family and how they're continuing to carry on Ai's legacy. I feel like they both inherited different parts of Ai's personality.

I think the reason why he has little confidence in his acting career but a lot in his confidence with his practical acting is all rooted to his fixation to Ai. If you remember that one time that they were explaining the different kinds of Actors, there was the competent actors and the actors that draw a crowd with their beauty or charisma... Ai was the latter, she has so much charisma that people can flock to her, but Aqua is more of the former where he can act at a level that he is expected to. But his fixation with his idol made her also the ideal actor in his eyes, even though that is not who he is meant to be, making him chase something that he is not.

I think in general Aqua doesn't particularly realise early on that he also has the Star quality, from getting Ai's looks himself. He sees Ai in how Ruby looks but doesn't immediately realise that he inherited that too

Love how much detail they put into contrasting Aqua and Ruby in the opening and ending. For example, in the opening, Ruby reaches for the star, which is presumably Ai's legacy and is able to grab it; whereas, Aqua tries to reach for the star in the ending and can't grab it because he is held back by puppet strings and is also underwater, maybe to symbolize being chained by his need for revenge. Also, in the ending it shows Aqua descending down a staircase while Ruby is walking up a staircase.

Couple thoughts I wanted to get your opinion on: It seems like Aqua want to shoulder this responsibility of someone close to him dying, so do you think that he feels sorta responsible for Sarina and Ai's death. Like if he was a better son or if he was a better doctor they would be alive and now I have to do more to protect Ruby. Second thought even after the death of Ai, is her personalities being split between her children; Ruby being the naïve, bubbly and kind side and Aqua being the dark, lie filled, driven and opportunistic is a place the show can go.

Another reason why Aqua acts the way he does to squash Ruby's dream is due to the severe PTSD and trauma he went through. They cut this from the manga, but apparently Aqua was with Ai's body as it went cold until the paramedics arrived at the scene. Also Aqua is acting with extreme paranoia and justifiably so due to the fact that he knows that the dad is still alive. The dad is the only one that know the kids exist (Ai informed the dad that the kids exist), the dad fed info to the stalker to try to get Ai and the babies killed. When that failed, he sent the stalker to the apartment and have Ai killed, probably wanted the kids killed too as a bonus but would be fine with just Ai. The dad has no qualms about bringing harm to Ruby, Aqua and their current lifestyle and family. Just as how after a DNA test finding the dad would be easy, but Aqua probably knows that the dad would have an easier time finding out where Aqua and Ruby are. Even more so if Ruby were to become famous within the entertainment industry and become well known. The dad is suspected to be a very powerful individual within the entertainment industry and could probably cover up any "accidents" that happen to Ruby and Aqua should they get famous. Thus why Aqua is so paranoid. IT's the reason why he says "I should be the only one..."

47:20 up until Miyako suggested the twins to be her children, she still thinks they were still those divine messenger beings. she asked them as if they still were as she spoke to them in formal speech. 「本当にうちの子になりませんか？(Hontou ni uchi no ko ni narimasen ka?/Would you consider being my children for real?)」a tone you wouldn't normally use to a child instead of 「本当にうちの子にならない？(Hontou ni uchi no ko ni narani?/Do you want to be my children for real?)」a less formal tone but hearing her speak to the twins using a casual tone now that their older, like using あなた(anata/you), a word you wouldn't use to a person who is above you in Japan, or saying うちに入りなさい(uchi ni hairinasai/join our agency), using a tone used by someone superior or elderly, like a mother to her child. so i think it's safe to assume that they're past the divine messenger thing and are just a real family.

I'm curious about how Aqua keeps himself motivated in his mission of vengeance. It's already been nearly twelve years since Ai died and he doesn't seem so driven in this episode. It's hard to hold onto a grudge for so long, and I wonder if he will eventually forget about it (unless something else traumatic happens).

Idol industry is a very harsh place. When fans of Akari Kito (the voice actor of Suzune Horikita, or most-notable Nezuko Kamado) found out in March 2023 that she is in a relationship since 2021, some declared her idol career is most-likely over. Luckily, it only has affected the sales of her music and nothing more but it is out of hand, that so-called "fans" can decide if a person is allowed to continue as musician/idol, etc. In South Korea a young idol seemingly committed suicide that year which has renewed discussions of the stress idol in K-pop industry have to face. This are just two of the most fresh cases I am aware of. I mean, I am realistic: I like Kitos music a lot and I am jamming to it regurarely (written right?) but I am aware, that she - and other celebrities are way out of my world, so I do not get how people can get so obsessive with people out of their reach that they are able to destroy ones career easily.

Gorou, Aqua's past doctor self, did in fact lie to Sarina. I think a part of Sarina did know she was going to die, but Doc Gorou said he would be her first fan and even said he'd consider marrying her, but he knew he was lying to her.

Front-loading the prologue dramatically alters the emotional context for this setup for sure. They don't need to do anything blunt with the visuals to convey that Aqua is getting visions of Ai bleeding out on the floor every time Ruby says "I want to be just like Mom" because that image is seared into your mind as a viewer just like in his.

Darn, Ben in the first episode had a traumatized face. Anyway, this is still the episode I was hooked. And to tell a bit detailed expirience, I think why prolonged is so important, and it is because the concept of two young stars in somewhat grounded slice of life with bits of comedy sounds so cool, but is very difficult to properly set up in the right mood. I like the premise of second episode even a bit better than the first and interested to see how it is going to go next.

Dont think ill be able to watch this show on my own though, way too Intense without having it broken up with like inputs discussions and such If theres flashbacks with Ai and stuff.. itd hurt way too much to take in on its own with no distractions. Really enjoying a lot of the reactions, so many of my favorites lately (Arcane, Cyberpunk, Mushoku, Re:Zero and Steins;Gate). Idk if anyone else feels this way but I'd love to see them replace Cyberpunk with KonoSuba (I guess that could be an overload of isekai) but it'd be interesting for them to react to basically the big 3 isekai at the same time to me lol + KonoSuba is just good but I admittedly have no idea or basis for whether they'd like it or not. (It's also very possible they don't replace Cyberpunk with a new show considering Oshi No Ko was a surprise and Demon Slayer has come back).
