This series covers all aspects of the entertainment industry, including the film industry. Aqua is very much traumatized, and has ptsd. In his eyes he is scared because he knows Ruby can make it big. He doesnt want to lose her, and wants her to live a long life. He truly knows the evil of the industry, and wants to be the only one that dives into that darkness.

For Aqua, his whole revenge is very personal. He was a doctor, so he knows the weight of life. He cherished his promise to Serena (the patient girl) before she died, and they both were inspired by Ai. Serena saw Ai as her light. So when he and Ai were murdered by the same person who was (most likely) collaborating with the dad, it sent him off the deep end. It became extremely personal, especially because the dad could be out there hurting more people. The same thing could happen to Ruby so he wants to protect her, too, even if it meant crushing her dreams. The entertainment industry in Japan can get very toxic and there are a lot of issues, for example, stalking. That's why there are a lot of Vtubers, because its protects their real identity. Other examples of crazy situations: Hana Kimura (a wrestler) was cyberbullied until she died. A guy stalked an idol and recognized her from the light shining in her eyes. Aqua just doesn't want anything like that to happen to Ruby because its not unheard of for these crazy cases to happen.

Little reminder that Aqua had to see her mom/idol/oshi die hugging him because no other reason than being an idol, he looks what's he's doing as necessary to protect her sister.

Since you guys mentioned BTS, a little fun fact: when the BTS members renewed their contracts with their company for another 7 years back in 2019, they disclosed that they were signed only after the members went over them with their families and teams of lawyers, they said "The agency has been actively encouraging BTS and their parents to seek counsel from accountants, lawyers, and other professionals on matters related to finance, settlements, legislation, and other matters", so I think they are a rare case where they are pretty aware of what they are getting themselves into. Smaller groups can't necessarily say the same. If you're still curious, you might want to check out the LOONA case where all the members filed a lawsuit to terminate their contracts with their agency.

No Suraj, not all OP or ED songs are made for their respective anime. It's becoming more common in mainstream stuff because its profitable and these not too much restriction on creative process. But no, most anime just contract with an artist(s) or group to use songs from their existing or upcoming work. You can tell if were or weren't at of the time just by looking up the original music video or track.

I will say in the case of BTS they literally grew their company from scratch so when the company went public all the members got a pretty big chunk of shares but indeed BTS' case is one in a million

Underground idol groups are a whole different breed. Underground idols have it even worse with more work and less pay and being taken advantage of by their bosses. As one ex-underground idol put it “aren’t they basically no different than being a hostess?”

They can get away with barely paying anything to idols cause like we see in the beginning they had close to 200,000 applicants trying to be an idol which is how those agency's prey on them. And they are like 14-16 year old girls so they don't know they are being taken advantage of. And if they negotiate too hard they'll get passed over anyway, they have 199999 other applicants

I went through the same arc as you all, prologue movie kept wondering what in the world I was watching but was still glued to the screen. by the end in tears. Then now am caught up to episode 5 and loving the series even though I usually avoid watching anime while it is currently airing. glad I stumbled into this one anyway, well worth the wait each week and can't wait to see where Aqua and Ruby end up.

Aqua was KILLED & witnessed MURDER of his mom infront of him. Then she died IN HIS ARM. First hand trauma is very different than you guys just seeing it on the couch. You guys have to understand that he is heavily traumatized. To him the stakes are high, he would rather see Ruby that didnt achieve her dream & hate him, than a dead Ruby.

I recommend you guys look up an english cover of the OP song so you can see the meaning of the lyrics (although I see you got english subs for the ED) as they reveal things about the characters and the visuals sync up with it to have symbolism about it. They actually are from Ai's and her fans viewpoint. The ED is from Aqua's point of view.

Haven't checked out this show because the concept squicks me out a little bit, but Mawaru Pengundrum is my favourite show of all time. I'll be honest though, the Normies have a hard time following the simplest of shonen and probably wouldn't be up for a symbolic, slower paced show.
