The new JLTV was built for survivability and mobility in mind. These vehicles are intended to bring soldiers into a combat area, complete their mission and return safely. It can obviously protect soldiers way better than the current Humvee with its V-Shaped hull and side armor. My issue is the armor configuration. Currently, in any military base you'll see soldiers NOT use their armored Humvees for anything. When you go to the range, the last thing you want to use or drive is an armored truck. They are simply never used! The Army should develop a light skinned (non-armored) version for use back at home during training. I know this might piss some people off, however they probably have never ever used a Humvee (armored or non-armored). Troops will only use Non-Armored vehicles for field training back home. The last thing they want to do is to get into a heavy duty vehicle for simple field duties. Through the JLTV program the Department of Defence has replaced the Humvee (very much needed), however they need to create a model that can easily be used for training back home. What about creating lighter non-armored doors for training back home?

The biggest problem with any American army vehicle or aircraft is it’s cost. It may look good, it may even work great but it will definitely be expensive.
@joeygreen13707 жыл бұрын
You have good points. But us American like to know our troops have the best equipment. Lol
@92Garrus7 жыл бұрын
I believe this is around ~$400,000 USD for each model. From what I recall, though, it took a few pages from the MRAP program and is much more survivable in the scenarios where it will be used in comparison with the HMMWV. The Hummer is currently about half that cost, but you have to keep in mind it's been in production for a few decades now and thus that's kind of an unfair comparison. What's a cheaper, non-American alternative?
@djmeyer19727 жыл бұрын
No, if you compare the price of one of these to the British it is MUCH less expensive than the Ocelot / Foxhound vehicle which is designed to perform a similar job. As the US will build JLTV in vast numbers the UK will reap the benefit of lower unit cost that it brings. It makes sense to pay this vehicle and it certainly looks like a well designed platform.

Anything STILL addicted to fossil fuels is going to be useless pretty soon. How soon? Not sure but we're building (by contract) troop transport and other weapons that will not run on solar power. Why? Battery powered vehicles have lots of attributes that last longer, are less dependent on transportation of fuels etc. This is wasteful government spending to enrich a small group of greedy people.
@zynon32533 жыл бұрын
It's faster to fill a vehicle with fuel than it is to charge w/ electricity. Solar powered vehicles would take days to charge and would depend on sunny days. The technology for electric vehicles is just not ready for combat yet.
@blackbird56343 жыл бұрын
@@zynon3253 the technology exists they refuse to consider it in order to keep the fossil fuel industry going. The existence of batteries alone knocks the ''sun must be shining'' argument out. The fastest car on the planet in a drag race is electric. The switch to green energy has to come sooner than later if we're to survive.

Engine not protection. Stupid design.
@davidcopeland57895 жыл бұрын
You mean the engine is not protected? That's the good thing about this vehicle. All the protection is for the occupants. The problem with the Humvee is that everything is protected and the vehicle is so heavy that it sinks in the sand. The Humvee is not a very good off-road vehicle and it doesn't go very fast. Not only is the Humvee excessively heavy, but it does not have very good protection for the occupants. The JLTV is not a stupid design, it's a brilliant design. You just have to understand why it's made the way it is.
