@@kmb-wy1to he probably meant that despite the myth we are taught in elementary school, Christopher Columbus was not the first person to discover America: 1) Native Americans were already here and it was their land - they discovered it ~20,000 years ago (during the last Ice Age ... they crossed the temporary land bridge from Asia ...glaciers so large, the sea level was lower). 2) He wasn’t even the first white man to dock here; the Vikings had made many landings way before him.

KT Ng I have been blessed to visit Singapore. You’re 100% correct in saying that it’s clean, friendly and safe as well as easy to get around. My family and I spent several days there and loved every minute that we spent there. The “night tours” at the zoo and strolling through the parks were our favorite things to do. We couldn’t understand the signs on the buses and trains forbidding bringing durian fruit onto them until we went to an outdoor market and actually got a whiff of one. They have to be the absolutely most disgustingly smelling things that we’ve ever had the misfortune to have smelled. I hear that the fruit is very delicious, but the smell was so horrible that I just wasn’t even brave enough to taste the fruit!

11:40 Wrong. Practically no Norwegian pays 50% tax. It is true the absolute maximum you must pay is a full 50%, but there is a step wise increase, which means people that earn more, will pay more, not only in monetary figures, but also in percent. In 2019, earning up to $50.000 a year incurs 29.4% tax. Earning $200.000 a year would set you back 45,7%. Anyone having a mortgage can deduct that interest on their income, which in turn reduces tax pressure, as long as you have a loan.

Your employer pays "employment tax", you pay income tax, then if you are gonna buy something you pay "merverdiavgift" (VAT) -- it all adds up to more than you want to admit! The communist government (AP/H/KFP/FRP you name it, all of them) take more from what you create than you get yourself. Prove me wrong!... (you can't)...
@Jurgh9094 жыл бұрын
@@daNorse @daNorse I'm not going into political discussions here. I am an economist, former CFO, and know very well which employer paid expenses occur upon employment. The statement is that a "Normal Norwegian worker" generally pays around 50% income tax, which is untrue.
@daNorse4 жыл бұрын
@@Jurgh909 I'm also an economist, financial analyst for 20 years in the stock exchange. So, I challenge you to do this simple calculation: Sum up employer's payroll tax, employees payroll tax, and finally add the VAT on top (excluding the abundant special taxes like on alcohol, tobacco, tax on real estate, etc. etc.) Personally, I mean we should abolish the income tax totally.

Can't Rick Steves for once visit one of these northern European cities when it isn't on one of their rare sunny days. Go there in the winter for a change so we can see what it is really like to live in one of these countries.
@sh0werp0wer7 жыл бұрын
What's wrong with winter? Winter is the best thing about Norway, there's snow and fantastic skiing opportunities throughout most of the winter, as opposed to other European cities where it's still cold. And btw, sunny days are fairly common in Oslo, it's not like this is "rare". Like most Western European countries we do have rain, yes. The one negative about Norwegian climate is that we have shorter summers, as we don't really start to get regular days above 20C before June. But yeah, if you're looking for somewhere just to get a tan there are obviously better options than Norway.
