The roadmap for the firmware sounds great. The most important feature request is the continuation of development itself. It is always hard to watch when a company puts in a huge effort, makes a very good (or, in some cases, outstanding) product, makes some finishing updates and corrections for a short while, then moves on - abandoning a still-vibrant machine with potential to be better. They get discouraged by a lull after the initial flurry of sales. If the hardware remains viable (as this hardware will - for even longer if you have implemented the DSP and memory chips the right way), and the developers put in some effort over time to make this what it can be, it can sell for a long time and nourish a loyal community of users. I know - business schools these days teach screwing customers and abandoning principle and humanity, but such businesses tank all he time and leave their leaders, even when they get rich, unfulfilled, unhappy, and paranoid, knowing lots of people have grievances with these weasels. We can choose better paths, however. Keep doing what you can to be your best selves. Congratulations on your success so far.

As a live musician, I would LOVE for the Osmose to be able to have some very standard sounds on board (that could be tweaked) like a really decent Rhodes sound and acoustic piano as well as some really authentic (sample based) strings and horns. With that on board the Osmose could be my stand-alone synth and not just a perky extra synth on stage for solos or pads. The keys are absolutely amazing to play, with great depth and liveliness, but to have some really basic sounds like that, would absolutely blow up the Osmose!

Exciting times ahead! I'd like to request a feature, whereby lateral note bends in either direction affect the pitch positively only. This should enable more realistic vibrato, since almost invariably players tend to bend the note down as well as up when modulating the keys laterally, which is unfaithful to applying vibrato to a stringed instrument. This has to be worth a try in my opinion!
@ExpressiveE3 ай бұрын
Very interesting idea, if you have examples or videos to share don't hesitate... we'll check them out :)
@andyjones7603 ай бұрын
@@ExpressiveE It would also mean a full cycle of lateral key modulation would produce vibrato at double the frequency (picture a rectified sine wave), which means you'd have to move the keys side to side at half the speed to achieve the same effect. So in theory it would be more controllable.

@@ExpressiveE Thanks a lot for getting back to me! Some keyboards have this options in their settings, and it would be even cooler to have it in the Osmose, too. As a typical example with my Kurzweil FORTE, when I play solos with a distorted lead guitar sound, I set the pitch bend "down" sense to -24 (2 octaves) or even more, and the pitch bend "up" just to +3 (a minor third). Now I can get crazy with the asymmetrical pitch bend behaviour, like a lot of guitar players actually do (Jimi Hendrix or Eddie van Halen who probably invented this, and successors :-) Just found a KZbin Short from a guy who showcases exactly this synth playing technique: kzbin.info8RZIhxFfpSI
@andreas-wismannАй бұрын
@@ExpressiveE Addendum: Please don't get me wrong: I love and enjoy the Osmose so much, it's an absolute milestone, just like the DX7 back in the day. Still there are some things that (being a software developer) I guess might be relatively straightforward to implement, while they make so much room for even more stunning ways of playing, using the hardware to its full potential. Talking about lateral pitch bend: Currently it's obvious that when you release a key, the note's pitch returns to its zero position, which you can hear during the release phase. While this may sound okay, it's maybe not what everybody wants all the time (especially when you play duophonic ARP Odyssey type of solos). I've used my thumb from below pressing into the key's edge, in order to keep the key sideways while I release it. My playing finger usually has not enough grip on the surface to do that. That's why I propose a setting, let's call it "Pitch Reset Lock" where the bending ever increases according to your finger's lateral movement, but it does not decrease (or even return to zero) until you completely let off the key and no sustain/sostenuto is engaged. This way, I could also play a chord, bend s single note, and that pitch would be locked automatically while I lift my fingers into the Pressure area again, then down, up, down..., repeatedly. Without the pitch bend coming back meanwhile. I hope my explanation makes sense. This would also help Jacob Collier playing his quarter note chords :-)

Great work! For me my biggest request would be on the sound front and it seems as though you are working on it. The quality and breadth of onboard effects is definitely something I find lacking on the osmose. Some of the parameters are also unusual and don't work in the ways I would classically expect. Particularly some high quality reverb, delay, and chorus models would be the main things I want. I would personally love to see modeling of world instruments in a more real way, some of the current presents are more fantastical or unusual and not always usable. Additionally some bread and butter analog synth modeled sounds would go a long way to making the osmose a standalone power house. I find a lot of the current sounds are very digital, cold, and hard sounding. Thanks for listening to your customers!

@ExpressiveE I like the redesigned presets menu, but I'm wondering how to rename custom presets from the Haken Editor? Does naming have to happen on the keyboard now (e.g. save preset menu)? That is a bit of a step back, but I get not many probably are tackling the eaganmatrix... Unless I'm missing something, a future option for ease of naming would be nice! Bringing the playlist selector back to Haken Editor would be even better ❤ Resynthesis will be wild! Super excited for the future! Keep up the awesome work.

Hi LuxLucid, thank you for your friendly comment. With firmware 2.0, any browsing or saving/renaming of presets has to happen through the Osmose GUI. The Haken Editor doesn't support the new comprehensive preset format we established for Osmose 2.0. In the long run, we will consider solutions like a librarian software, but please understand that these things take time. Best wishes!

Can we have option to improve sensitivity of some of the knobs? Particularly scrolling with the left knobs requires big movements and replacing the fingers often

Ooo, my upgrade (from v1.4.4) hasn't worked I don't think. After it completed and I was told to power cycle it, and after the calibration screen, I'm stuck on a screen that says "operation in progress please wait...". Been like that for about 20 minutes, not sure how safe it is to turn it off and try again. Looking forward to trying this out though!

Still hoping there will be Split and Layering in standalone. That is what I'm expecting the most for the past 4 years.

There seems to be a problem with saving pressure glide with presets. Sometimes it works and sometimes when you retrieve a preset pressure glide has been changed. At one point I changed the range from semitone to whole tone, but after saving it reverted back to semitone: this changed in the Haken editor as well. It seems to depend on the previously chosen preset. The same preset (one I made) sometimes has a semitone and sometime 2nd pressure glide interval. I am not sure, but it seems to depend on which preset was chosen previously, but I don't see how this can make sense. Is this a bug or is there a way to get around this?

At 6:40 I can see that bending should also be possible up to 1/48 semitone. With my Osmose I can only bend up to 1/4 of a semitone. Do i miss anything?
@ExpressiveE4 ай бұрын
When the pitch bend range is 1/48, then this refers to a fraction of the maximum pitch bend range that is set in the target device that actually produces the sound. In the video, you are seeing the sensitivity menu of External MIDI Mode, not the one of Sound Engine Mode. More info is available here: expressivee.happyfox.com/kb/article/257-sensitivity-menu/

Hi René, please check the 2.0 manual and the release notes that come with the firmware download for the updated procedure. We will update our online knowledge base to contain 2.0 information very soon, sorry for the confusion.

Something besides the Eagan matrix, or just a controller

Osmose seems to be the king of MPE and expressive playing, but DAW integration, NI Komplete or Arturia Lab are not well integrated. So, I feel I still need to have another midi controller to be productive….like the NI Kontrol Series. I keep waiting for 1 vendor to offer MPE, Midi 2.0, polyphonic aftertouch, DAW integration, Komplete and Arturia integration…..and waiting.
