Runelite won't be getting this in particular, but there is another HD plugin for Runelite that is aimed to release in ~2 months, which looks even better than HDOS imo. Look up @117scape on Twitter for previews.

Out of all the hd clients this 1 is the only to have ultra hd graphics & dynamic weather mods. I'm super excited for this one but he really needs more devs to help out, otherwise it's going to take forever to release & subsequently update.

I actually haven’t played runescape since EOC dropped. Yes, I’ve never touched osrs. If Jagex actually allow something like this, I will probably make a return. I started in 07 but the 2008-2012 graphics are just so nostalgic for me. It went downhill when they did the armour rework in 2012, graphics wise.

Surg1n I remember that. The new whip design had a different animation on release that didn’t last long and then they changed it to make it resemble the old one. If my memory serves me right, the animation was the player throwing the whip behind him/herself before attacking. Sort of like how it would look irl. I actually didn’t mind that whip design too much. I just wanna see the game looking like that again. I think the ugliest design choice was the first bandos armour rework in 2012 (I think they did it twice in one year?). The tassets were so ugly, they had like a massive flap in the middle. Completely ruined it. Tbh, they ruined every armour set in that rework. They all came out looking bad. Void armour rework was really bad. Well, I still keep up to date with the game even though I don’t play it. Here’s hoping they add a toggle option for these graphics. I get that not everyone is in favour of it

Same here. Started in 05 but had the most fun playing during 2008-2011. I've played OS since its release but in the last couple of years just haven't really enjoyed the game anymore. Especially since PvP died. HD would reignite the spark I had to play again

I think overall this looks good, but it needs like another layer of dept within the graphics, its HD compared to OSRS ofc, but I think it can still be improved. Also the fire things do look as they should look, I like the firecape and other fire animations. IMO this should be optional, to be able to be toggled on and off by choice.

am i the only one that thinks this doesn't look good? osrs has dated graphics obviously but i feel like they have a cleanness to them that this lacks. Its not like the hd graphics compare to anything modern so either way you accept that the game is going to look old so why not pick the less visually abrasive (game looks fuzzier on hd) version, if that makes sense.

I kind of expected more in terms of HD but eh, still better than the graphics on the vanilla client. I want the HD quality I saw in a video where the trees actually look like trees, the water, well.. looks exactly like water. I'd even pay money to play on that client. I would love to play the classic game I grew up to love, in modern day graphics, even on my shit pc I am sure I could run it no problem lol. Fingers crossed, wonder what Gagek will do, I am guessing 09 pre-EoC HD. I believe it will also bring in a lot more people that may have turned away from the game due to it looking like a potato. Soon hopefully, far overdue.

So the OSR (which is what I'm assuming you're talking about) is a complete graphical overhaul, that's not what this client is trying to emulate Funny enough, these are the graphics we got in the HD update back in 08 and for a lot of us this carries a heavy amount of nostalgia. The devs are more concerned with restoring that look than creating a more modern day looking game :)
