My tip on painting sand bases is if you thin paint with a solvent like isopropyl or even a little acetone sand has the surface area to suck it along and spread out with the polar molecules and no surface tension and what have you.
@BlackJackLegacy5 жыл бұрын
Great shout mate - i tend to just water down the paint but the contrast paints work great. i used this same method on my Warcry stuff. Never used iso in painting.
@TiberiusWallace5 жыл бұрын
@@BlackJackLegacy try it. A 25mm base you can just load up a brush and dab on and it just spreads out. The wife's nail varnish remover works for it. It's really handy if you've got a tight space to get into but you don't want to mess up your paint job.

I'm pretty new to painting and know very little about how colours/paints behave, so I have somewhat of a silly question; for the drybrushing of the bones, will any white paint do? I have Corax White and White Scar and not a single online hobby store in my country sell the "Wrack White" paint.
@BlackJackLegacy4 жыл бұрын
Yeah any white paint will do. Just put a little on the brush you’re dry brushing with and wipe it onto the paper towel. It’ll work the same way.

(Chikahiro/Sam) Very nice! Quick, and I think it was easy enough hopefully anyone can say "I can do that!" I have joked with a friend or two that its no coincidence that The Old World was announced after the release of Contrast Paints ;) Speaking of which, I'm looking at Kings of War 3rd edition as a project down the road. I've got one friend who has a few WHFB armies he's not played in years, so it'd give him a chance to use them while giving me something new to paint once I'm done with my Warcry and Riot Quest minis. And Warmachine. And... er... well, best stop thinking about that... ooh, and Defiance later on... er... :)

Any particular case for Sotek Green vs Kroxigor Scale contrast for these guys? I tried Kroxigor Scale just now and it actually looks pretty sweet with a highlight, but I could see the layer paint being easier to work with and more consistent over the flatter areas. Thanks, awesome video and inspired me to make a tomb kings themed OBR army :)
@BlackJackLegacy Жыл бұрын
I think that when I painted these Kroxigor Scale Contrast wasn’t released yet. If you think it looks good go for it mate 👍🏼
@legiox217 Жыл бұрын
@@BlackJackLegacy good shout mate, you’re probably right that it wasn’t released yet. I have played around with it on a couple models and I enjoy it, though it does require careful application over the flat panels as it is contrast paint, but I am going to try your way next and compare to see which is easier and more consistent. I gave them 1 layer of baharroth blue after the kroxigor and I was pleased. On the shield just have to watch the brush strokes

How do you base your minis, do you add the sand then glue the minis on, or glue the minis then add the sand?

I tend to glue mini to the base, add the sand and then prime everything as this helps to seal the sand in place too.

That was a great an inspiring video! THANK YOU! Although I have a comment / question :) If you are careful and do not go over the armour with the skeleton contrast color, do you believe that the armour could be done similarly by using another contrast color? Or color spill are too challenging to avoid?
@BlackJackLegacy4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think you could use a Contrast paint for the armour however I'd say they're rather flat and I don't think Contrast will give you the highlights. That said it would still look great.

That looks amazing. I'm definitely going to take some of this to put onto mine. I have two questions if I may: 1- do you think it would look ok with purple cloth to keep it looking different from the armour or will it make the model too "busy"? 2- how did you do the wings on the morghasts at the back of the army pic?
@BlackJackLegacy5 жыл бұрын
hi mate - I think the purple cloth would fit well so worth a try. The wings are just the aethermatic blue contrast I used on the eye sockets all over - super easy and effective.
