Yes latching issues are super important, even just a mild latch problem in terms of a poor seal can mean babies sucking in air along with the milk which can mean more wind, unsettleness and sleep issues. And of course bigger latch issues can be really really difficult for mum and bub. Rosalie were you thinking a latch video from the point of view of explaining to parents lie this video did or more for practitioners. Or were you thking both !!

I’m taking my 7 month old for his first appointment tomorrow, as he has never been able to nap easily. I’m very apprehensive as the time of the appointment is when he gets very sleepy, and cries (and screams). I’m really trying not to stress, as I know he can pick up on that!

Any info on how this helps with babies who hate car seats or high chairs?

One possibility is that one or more of the vertrabrae in their spine is sensitive to pressure and the car seat and high chair when they press on their back causes discomfort - you can test this by gently pressing on each one of their vertbrae in in turn to see if it is sensitive - being gentle is the key thing here you defintely arent trying to elicit pain you are pressing gently to see if its sensitive. Another possibility is that the position they are sitting in in the high chair is uncomfortable for their hips, (less of a factor in most car seats ) when they are in the high chair try supporting their feet with your hands and bringing the knees into a more flexed position to see if it helps. Of course once baby has assocaiated pain with the car seat/high chair they may be reluctant to be in them even if you can find a position that gives relief. Also some babies dont like being 'hemmed in' so it can be an element of that involved as well, but that tends to be more car seats, especially as it may usually mean seperation and less attention, whereas in a high chair usually the child is being engaged as we are trying to get them to eat - hope that helps, and if they are sensitive on the spinal vertabrae then do have someone like an osteopath experienced in working with babies check them out to see whats going on.
