You girls are so brave to talk about this topic. I have severe IBS-D and don't go out in public much at all. I miss a lot of things such as holidays, birthday parties for my grandkids, eating out etc. I have no sphincter muscle and can't control my bowels. I used to work in a hospital as a Respiratory Therapist and lost my career due to my health issues. Doctors have talked about doing surgery and giving me a ostomy but I just can't seem to come to having it done. Its been a depressing time for me. I feel more like a hermit stuck in my house without any type of life. Thanks for sharing and your courage! You're both amazing. 💜🖒🌷

Thanks so for the information ladies! I'm still testing and learning what I can and cannot do. I was given some general guidelines on what could be problamatic regarding food but told to experiment and see what works for me. I'm gaining good and bad experiences, it seems on a daily basis, and I'm now 2 months post surgery. Three weeks of that was in the hospital; so, I've had a little less time learning on my own. I can't imagine what someone stumbling onto a video like this must think if they've not had this surgery. It can sound weird, but I sit hear understanding where you are coming from on most of it.

one water drinking tip I've been using for 14 years now is investing in a mini fridge for your bedroom because let's face it we all end up staying in bed most days at least I do. anyways just keep it stocked with plastic water bottles. for me I love drinking ice cold water so this helps me drink water all day every day. You can always simply grab a few waters for a quick or long trip. I have dry mouth personally from all of the pain meds so I'm always thirsty. I hate the taste of tap water and think it's extremely unhealthy for you so I always carry my own ice cold waters where ever I am. I use to hate drinking plain water and now it's all that i drink. I go thru 5 32 pks of water a month but it's so so worth it in the end plus it helps pass my meds thru me as quickly as possible which is nice. i sincerely hope that this is helpful.

Two of my favorite ostomates :) Please do more of these! Your smiles made me smile and it's nice to chuckle at these things we all (ostomates) face.

Another great video! You girls are fantastic! I love you both! My surgery is in less than two weeks and I'm starting to get nervous now. Having these videos, and the videos of others, has really helped me to prepare and I've gotten some fantastic advice and tips! I've gotten a few belly bands, a pair of maternity jeans (a bunch of people suggested these), I already wear lots of tunic like tops that sort of blouse and are a bit oversized because my abdomen is constantly distended and I bloat with everything. Right now I'm basically living off of cereal and bread (gluten-free at that) and I'm excited to start be able to widen my food horizons. I have no misconceptions about having to be super careful, and I already do a lot of smoothies. Well, not so much lately, but I used to make awesome smoothies with spinach, bananas, raspberries, etc. Anyway, thanks for another great video!

I can relate to so much of this now! My inital colectomy surgery was 5 months ago but I'm still scared about lifting really heavy things. Also, how do you guys stay in shape? I've been doing cardio but I'm nervous about what kind of exercises I can do without hurting myslef. Specially when it comes to exercise that involves the abdomen in any way. Any advice would be appreciated! :) Thanks for the video! It's awesome to feel like I'm not the only one out there with these issues.

Great question! I've done cardio without any problems, but do not have much experience doing anything else. I definitely stay away from ab exercises, because of my history with prolapsing, but some people can handle it! I would start small and work your way up!

So if I pinch myself on the back of my hand and it stays there, that means I'm dehydrated? Help me, Laura! I totally trust your advice on this!

Does having an ileostomy have any effect on appetite, weight, mood, and energy levels? Without a colon, there is no gut flora, so I wonder how that could affect various aspects of health and wellbeing? I'm up for an ileostomy soon and am really nervous about it 😔

Does the grape juice work because it increases output (being high in sugar) or because its acidic?
@memyostomy584110 жыл бұрын
I think the sugar has a lot to do with it, but I'm not 100% sure. Good question!

poo porui for the smell. it can't go in the bottle but spray the toilet water and bathroom before emptying or changing. at least that's what I'm going to try. I literally had my surgery for my ileostomy about 8 hours ago. 😨😐😁

Hi ladies. I have had my ostomy for 15 years. Believe me, you will learn to live with all the challenges. the hard part is explaining things to others. I had a part time job for 10 years, and thank God for an understanding boss.

What's a blockage?
@memyostomy584110 жыл бұрын
A blockage is when food gets stuck somewhere in the small intestine, causing an obstruction. When this happens, it usually stops or slows down the flow of output and causes a lot of pain.
