As a person who's been writing DnB for a few years and who has been fortunate enough to have had a couple tracks I've worked on mapped and ranked in the game, you hit the nail on the head.

completely unrelated but your insane diff on Xi - Zauberkugel is a masterpiece. It will forever be one of my favorite maps just because how much it fits with the music and how fun it is to play.

how about a video on breakcore / speedcore / high bpm maps with many sounds going on at once and how to handle that sort of thing without overwhelming a player? mostly lapfox (the quick brown fox, renard, kitcaliber) maps come to mind honestly

I have a question in regards to the recent events due to Sotarks’ Despacito map and the outcry of specific players. Do you think mapping could be defined as a transformative process?

Would be nice if he could explain ranked maps that are undermapped and overmapped at the same time. Maps where the mapper undermap to emphasize stronger sounds but at the same time place notes where absolutley nothing is playing. I can understand both but not at the same time. Dont you just get a made up rhythm then?
@Celektus_6 жыл бұрын
Stefan I mean adding emphasis through undermapping works because it creates a really noticeable difference in note density (unless you undermap everything) and overmaping emphasizes things through note strain or just makes rhythm easier. You can easily mix the 2 and overmaping can even amplify the effect of undermapping for example imagine a overmapped triple leading into a undermapped 1/1 slider, the triple makes the sudden low density more apparent
@l1mi136 жыл бұрын
So its a made up rhythm that amplifies the undermapping and sometimes make it easier to play. (I heard that reason once before from Kite, that it makes it easier to play but didnt understand it and im not sure i do now either but ill try think about it a bit more). Feels good to know it at least has some purpose even if it feels wrong to play sometimes but damn this mapping meta is so diffuse and hard to comprehend. It feels like anything goes as long as you can argue its for the sake of making it easier to play or for emphasis.
@Celektus_6 жыл бұрын
Stefan just as an example of how overmaping can make things easier, pishi mentioned in 2 videos the use of overmapped doubles over 3/4 beat gaps since you effectively split this odd rhythm into 2 1/4 gaps and a 1/2 gap in between personally don't know many other uses of overmaping for simplification maybe how Dnb mappers usually put quints or triples into the 3/4 beat gaps of drums instead of mapping them
@l1mi136 жыл бұрын
I totally agree to that both undermapping and overmapping can be good, the problem come when you combine them at the same time. Thats what I have a problem understanding. I mean you end up with something that can sound super good, even better than the original music it self but not following the music. Nghhn I need to make a joke map that explains it, give me a few months I map slowly. = )
