Damn that idea of not focusing on single objects and looking at your map as a series of object movements and placements really just changed the paradigm of mapping for me. Like… duh! It’s about the flow of the map not about any single thing. It’s more like a series of sections that flow together rather than a series of single objects that need to all linearly follow each other. Your insight is invaluable. Thanks for the video!

I thought kick slider meant specifically a short repeating slider that also has an irregular sound effect in the middle to emphasize a kick (in the music)

this aged badly. The mania mapping scene is so boring, mappers only want to rank chordjack / boring LN farm. Yeah I can play both of those and its worth a lot, but I don't want to. More and more people quit osu!mania because of the disconnect between what players want and what mappers have to do to rank their maps these days..... Not to mention, percy LN skins absolutely abusing the broken nature of long notes, basically all of the top level maps are all LN farm and require these skins for them to be even playable (they look to be charted with percy in mind and BNs don't care).

you should redo this experiment but instead make a map that is mediocre and unremarkable but still rankable, so people aren't immediately sus it's a multi

its interesting that none of his concerns ever came to fruition. what ended up happening is that the most popular mappers just ended up having easier times to get ranked while loved open up for more unknown mappers to get their spotlight. maybe the difference here was pishi was viewing this from a mappers perspective and they would care more about mappers. while players, the ones voting, dont care about mappers and dont know their names and thus are only judging maps by the maps.

You could spend 10 years and tens of thousands of hours explaining how to identify the right way to time a song, and 90% of maps will continue to be so badly mistimed you'd think the mapper was on a satellite orbiting earth for 500 years.

Something that I think should be mentioned is that iNiS mapping style is meant to evoke the movements and/or feelings of an ouendan band (or a group of cheerleaders/secret agents in the EBA case I guess). The whole theme of you acting as a group of cheerleaders forms an emotional connection with the player towards the characters you're trying to help, which is a big part of the charm of the original games. The quirky visuals plus meaningful mapping is what sets the Ouendan games apart from anything else in the rhythm game market. Sad that it's been lost to time and that it's more of a byproduct of the fact the original games were meant for touch devices such as the DS instead of PC with mouse movements. I appreciate that both of you recorded this because I wish more people embraced the iNiS style!

I recommend to learn BPM from inabakumori songs, she write the BPM on the description, instead of just copy paste, i recommend to try do the BPM by your self and then check if you done it correctly.
