He does seem to be the most consistently immovable object on the line. I haven't memorized the team's o-line but if memory serves, they Steelers also only got blockers on offense in the '23 draft, like even at TE with Darnell Washington. How many of the guys they had to replace _this_ draft were from that one versus how many were already on the team? It's hard to get very familiar with these details in one's daily life.

"if memory serves, they Steelers also only got blockers on offense in the '23 draft, like even at TE with Darnell Washington." Yes. Although Darnell Washington has the athletic potential to be an impactful receiver, the team has not used him that way. He has red-zone size but also enough speed to threaten the seam. As for pure blockers, they drafted linemen Broderick Jones and Spencer Anderson. "How many of the guys they had to replace this draft were from that one versus how many were already on the team? It's hard to get very familiar with these details in one's daily life." Troy Fauntanu was drafted to replace Dan Moore Jr. in the starting lineup. Zach Frazier was drafted to replace Mason Cole, who was on the team in 2023 but is no longer on the team. Mason McCormick could possibly take a roster spot from Spencer Anderson in the short term, but that isn't why he was drafted. Long term, the team wants to develop him as a starting guard. I would prefer him at left guard because his best trait is his athleticism and his best skill is his ability to pull. The Steelers did not draft any tight ends. I don't think they need to replace any of the four they had last year, and frankly I would be angry if they did.

Anyone a little worried that Arthur Smith’s run scheme is very similar to the zone scene that Canada ran? The one that had us the worst rushing team in the league? Only when we went back to power did the run game take off.
@JamesB-mi9uu
@JamesB-mi9uu 2 ай бұрын
No bc his scheme is known as a power run scheme he was just running a more zone based scheme bc he had Mariota and Ridder as qbs who’s really only pro is that they can run read option

I am not worried because Zone schemes work if executed properly. One man has a proven track record of efficient offensive production at the professional level. The other showed a clear inability to make his offense execute any if his concepts at the professional level. The best indicator of future perfirmance is past perfirmance. Thats it.

No simply because Arthur track record is running to lead to play action. Something we really haven’t seen alot out of since maybe Todd Haley

@@russobenstine851 the other people in this thread have made some good points. My worry is that Canada, while being bad at both play design and play calling, didn’t have a particularly bad zone scheme. It just didn’t seem like we have the right personal for it. We have a pull the guard, power running line. I hope I’m wrong.

To me this tape looks like a #2 going against #3's. Especially the last play - 72 doesn't even look like he's trying to cross the LoS. If he's improved a lot and Moore hasn't, then perhaps the additional years of control Cook has gives him an advantage on cutdown day. But Moore is younger, more experienced, has more pedigree, and is still cheap this year. So I think Moore stays as the active backup for 2024. Cook could give them the confidence to let Moore leave in FA next year without adding much more at the position though.

You're right but it's a sign of a guy who is worth a longer look. Cook was playing above his level and that's notable when you see it on tape.

He was listed at 6'6" 290 while playing QB, so already bigger than a TE. He also averaged 4.1 yards per carry at NAIA Montana State University-Northern, not quite the dynamic playmaker you'd expect to get open against NFL LBs and Safeties.

@@brianjonker510, are you aware that Darnell Washington lined up outside and caught go balls for Georgia? He would have averaged ten yards per carry in NAIA.

I couldn't help taking peeks at Broderick Jones on each play. He looked like he struggled on every play. Thankfully he did get better in the real season.

Your comment made me watch Jones throughout this video. I didn't see him lose a rep. I think he did great on every play. One play, the end got behind him, but it was a run up the middle. I'm sure he knew the play, and you can allow that when it has no chance to impact the play. The play where Trubisky got sacked, he held on to the ball too long. Other than that he was perfect.

It's not a "technique". It's just a place to stand. "He's playing 3 tech." No, he's not. He's just lining up between the guard and the tackle. There's no "technique" involved in just standing there. Once the ball is snapped, he can use a variety of techniques, if he so chooses and is capable. That people fall for the over-hyping of absolutely EVERYTHING in this game is just dumb.
@Alex_Kozora

These are basic football terms that help categorize how a play looks and what players are doing. None of this is "hyping." It's descriptive. 3-tech is a term every coach uses to describe exactly where a player is lining up.

This is pre season tape so that significantly changed the analysis. Far from actual game speed. U can gleen some thing as far as technique etc... However, does that technique stand up with enhabced game speed and against top tier talent? Gotta take it for what it is.
