Despite the fact that the intermountains are rare I have seen them go for under 300 I got a brand new one for 180 at a train show because it was the end of the last day and the seller wanted to get rid of everything

I have 3 N scale Intermountain Cab Forwards One with sound and two without. I have not had a good experience with them. The main problem is continuity problems on the electrical pickups. All of them stall on switches, and the sound example is really bad, every time it loses power it shuts downs the sound and has to restart it.. I think it needs a keep alive capacitor and better picks of the rails. Another problem is the lead truck doesn't like to stay on the rails... it flops around and seems like it needs weight on the truck, or perhaps a strong spring. I'm not the only person with problems with these Cab Forwards, and member in or N scale club, also has 3 Cab Forewords and has the same pick up problems.
