Otaku Evolution Episode 241 - Super Dimension Fortress Macross

After refurbishing an unmanned alien spaceship, mankind is about to launch it under the name of Macross. But an incident during activation attracts the ire of the alien Zentradi, who attack Earth and the Macross. After Macross accidentally teleports to the other end of the solar system, the crew and passengers struggle to return to the planet aboard it while at the same time battling the Zentradi. However, in the struggle, it's discovered that an understanding between races may be possible, if only the alien menace had culture, or specifically, the songs of Lynn Minmay!
The original Macross series is important and groundbreaking, but is it really so good? I'll go on about what I like and I dislike about this formative chapter of anime history.

I'm glad to have made the decision to watch the original Japanese version of the series instead of the ADV Films dub. Vic Mignogna and Illich Guardiola really ruined Macross for me as Hikaru and Quamzin.

I've heard about the English non-Robotech dub, but this is the first time I've ever seen it! But Max says "muh-cross"...😂

It's not a great dub. There are some scattered good performances, but overall, it feels miscast and misdirected.

@@otakuevolution2131 I see. Where did you find it, out of interest? Any idea about the history behind it? Was this made for Asian English-speaking markets like the Transformers Headmasters dub?
