The Grammys not recognizing this is tragic because this is an amazing debut. Luckily BPI in the UK have changed rules to allow her to enter Mercury and Brits in UK. She has lived there 26 years but holds a Japanese passport. Saw yesterday she has a Tour in the USA this year so booked Denver in October (first night sold out fast, so second show now on), but really hope lots of US listeners catch on her work is super clever and refreshing.

Her EP is not as genre bending & doesn’t have as much rock elements but the production / mixing is better & the lyrics are a lot sharper. It has a more interesting concept & it’s more sonically cohesive. It’s very glitch pop & it’s more futuristic. A lot of her fans love her debut album but enjoy her EP more.

would you consider Utada Hikaru's English albums for a retrospective. She's what got a lot of gamers into Jpop/Kpop and I feel her influence in Sawayama is pretty clear. Snakeskin from Sawayama actually samples the fanfare from Final Fantasy 9.

The best thing about rina for me is that YOU CAN NEVER GUESS HOW A SONG WILL DEVELOP, ever since her first lp is something that made me feel hooked (Stockholm syndrome is a great example, or hold the girl track among many others). I'm still new to Rina. I only discovered her in the duet with Lady Gaga on Free Woman. I was also shocked as hell to find out she's the female assassin in John Wick 4! I'm a certified fan now. (I have yet to hear her second album hold the girl.) Lastly, this was released at the end of 2019 but I can't tell if the deluxe edition with Lucid was released before or after Raiin on Me, which sounds similar considering they were both produced by Bloodpop.
