I'm reviewing the top end model of one of the highly praised fans in the pc market coming from the highly praised manufacturer which is Noctua. But is it really that good?
Thank you Noctua for sending me the products for review.

people complain about sound but want performance also. this is a performance fan, not a silent fan that cant handle anything. this this is awesome. I have one on a Hyper 212 Evo running at 75% constant through the motherboard, i dont hear it at all inside the case. I had a 140mm 3000rpm on the back of my Corsair 750D case as exhaust and it completely cooled everything off. i recently water-cooled my video card and will be getting another 120 3000RPM for that radiator. things are beasts and work like a charm.

Thanks for the review. I was considering these for my passive-capable build, and really wanted to see the "fan stops at 0%" function. Being able to run from 0% dead stop, low power low speed gently rolling over, intermediate power with more noise, all the way up to "my PC is taking off now", which I can map my fan curve to use that mode if something's overheating. Oh, and I'm pretty sure these will far outlast the Corsairs, thanks to their rugged industrial design and construction - the other major factor in their favor in my shopping.
@queenannesrevenge3770
@queenannesrevenge3770 Жыл бұрын
I have no clue why people make passive builds. Every pc fan I've ever used is so quiet you have to specifically listen for it to notice. (At low rpm) I can't think of a situation where something that quiet is too loud. I use a sensitive XLR mic that picks up everything including my breath but you can never hear my PC. And I don't use 'silent' fans or a quiet fan curve. Quite the opposite, actually. Maybe I'm wrong but it kinda seems people build silent builds solely for the novelty and gimmick of being silent.

Something to consider is fin density on radiators, the NF-F12 Ippc has a much higher static pressure so up against a more dense radiator it will perform better. Also in restrictive airflow cases like we are seeing more and more of the Noctua will perform better because of the pressure. It is nearly double the pressure at about the same airflow. In your testing that most likely was not a factor which is why the difference was minimal.

These are amazing fans, I've got one plugged in via the Noctua speed controller pushing into a water-cooled R9 280X radiator on a "set-top box" and it will run from 328 to 2973RPM (with the green light on). Obviously at the higher setting it's like a jet engine, although great for cooling the Radeon! At 1000RPM it cools the GPU fine with normal use but is virtually silent. Highly recommend.

2 questions. I noticed the 2000rpm and 3000rpm (these in the video) are nearly same price. Is there any reason I would want the 2k rpm ones instead? I mean creating a fan curve to lower these at 2k rpm im sure is possible right? Also, im buying 2 noctua fans for push and pull config on the corsair h100i v2. Do you think i should use these to pull or the corsair ones to pull? Radiator is placed on the front of the tower if that matters.
@OTechnology
@OTechnology 5 жыл бұрын
Nah no reason to get the 2000RPM ones really, the 3000RPM ones can easily be slowed down all the way to 200RPM and stopping at 0% PWM. If you get these fans probably best to not pair the original corsair ones with these since they would probably only hinder the airflow these Noctuas can generate.

Hi +jarcdday and +Weech0 I am running a 2600k @ 4Ghz with H115i with 2 nf-a14 3000 rpm PWM fans. (note this is the 140mm fan that are quieter and more powerful.) I run them at 30% under 30 degrees as you can barely hear them. They do a good amount of cooling and under stress my fans ramp up to 40% at 40 degrees. I guess I need to push my CPU harder.
@Weech.

I ended up getting the 2k's and I regret not getting the 3k's. I got an x62 to go with them and I ran into an issue where the x62 would not fit on top of my H440 because of my mobo VRMs. I ended up front mounting my x62 and was disappointed in the performance. Last night I decided to remove the front panel and my temps dropped 12c! The H440's front panel is just awful for intake. I feel like the 3k's would help alot. The difference is INSANE when the front panel is off. I was playing GTA V and my temps were averaging around 38c! 38c used to be my idle temperature with the EVO 212. Now i'm debating whether to get an open front case or just cutout the front of my H440.

So i've placed the radiator/fan on the rear exhaust pushing air from inside of the case, out over the radiator. Max GPU temps i get is 60C and max cpu temps i get are pretty much the same under full load (intel i7 6700k @4Ghz)

*This will whine* I have 2 slim fans, they whine. This whines as well because the air channeling fins take up space. This fan is 25mm thick sadly. They didn't compensate the fan thickness with the channeling fins. It should be 36mm thick or so. Like my *ap181 air penetrator SilverStone* fan, they are correct width for thick blades and the air channeling fins(its much thinner and more fins). The blades can grab a lot air to not to whine, sadly this 25mm thick fan isn't made like that.

@thomas930409 6 жыл бұрын
I think I misinterpreted what you wanted to say. Yes, the blades are on top of those fins. Thats the problem, because the fan itself is the regular 25mm thick. So where is that space taken from? You guessed it, the blades need to be slimmer... Hence the whiny slimfan sound.
@OTechnology
@OTechnology 6 жыл бұрын
Actually the sound is due to the blades passing the fins. A thicker fan will make more noise as it moves more air your logic in that is flawed.

@The_Chad_
@The_Chad_ 4 жыл бұрын
You should be fine if you don't accidentally get the 24V version. But, it is always wise to check the amperage rating of the fan headers on your specific motherboard. I think most motherboards are rated around 1 amp and the 140mm 3000 RPM version of this fan is only .33 amps, so you might be able to run 3 off of one header. That said, I've heard people claim that they've burned out fan headers with these PPC fans for what that's worth. Ultimately, it is still a good idea to cross-reference for yourself. You can get all the info you need from the website with your motherboard's spec sheet and Noctua's spec sheets on their site.

i actually ended up purchasing the industrial noctuan nf-f12s and they were the black ones with brown corners. max speed was 2000rpm. In all honesty though, they weren't any better in terms of quietness than the new corsair static pressure fans. I ended up using corsair fans in my case cuz they were equally quiet plus i felt more airflow with the corsair fan. not to mention the corsair ones were considerably cheaper. Currently im using the MSI core frozr L cpu cooler which comes with the MSI frozr fan and even thats pretty good. though going above 1200rpm with any fan produces unbearable sound for me.
