The few times I played I tried to get as many pieces as possible. Thank you for the effort you put into this video.

Exactly, this game is kind of counter intuitive as we need to capture most discs at the end of the game, but interestingly we shouldn't do it that much at the start in general so we can control the game :)

@@OthelloAcademy Me and them would try to get the most amount of discs each turn (and the corners) and it would be random who would win.

@@robologo that's normal when we have no idea how to think strategy :) it's like walking around a forest with no compass :)

How can I train these skills effectively? When I try to apply these lessons, I can only focus on one thing, like grouping, so I forget about mobility, and things similar.

Ultimately you need a matrix of rules that have priorities over one another. It's hard for a one size fit all model but u have to consider it with other things like openings specialisation and these fundamental skills

This will definitely take me more than a day to be good at.

A minute to learn, a lifetime to master :) but hey, ask the 11 year old japanese kid who won a world title at such a young age man

I tried this and ended up losing 3 games in a row from running out of pieces

Yeah, went back to focusing on capturing the sides and started dominating again
@OthelloAcademy6 ай бұрын
That is because you may not have complete mastery over mobility (minimisation still requires key disc or position control otherwise you may get wiped out), but capturing sides could also be controlling mobility. The differences can be a bit nuanced and subjected to players skill. If edge play works for you better, definitely use edge play. Dominate could be subjective in terms of levels though. The experimentation in different approaches should be an ongoing procesd for everyone, so whatever works for you :)
