Aside from "Match of the day" the premiership get a fortune themselves to allow their games to be broadcast and if you consider how much some players earn a year even makes Linnakers wages look like paper round money. It really is about time that the BBC and all of its associated companies and companies that it has shareholdings in are thoroughly investigated. Surely, they owe it to the TV tax paying public to explain an outline exactly where their money is being spent, or what it's being wasted on is probably more poignant.

We vote for our constituency representatives. {:o:O:}

@j0hnf_uk

Those selling the rights to, 'highlights', of premier league games are obviously hoping the BBC will cough up, regardless of how much they're swindling them out of. ITV and the other companies don't see it as economically viable, i.e. they know it's not going to make them money, so aren't bothered at all by them. They've already reached the point of being greedy, in that they expect the BBC to pay regardless of how much more it's going to be the next time it comes up for sale. They could drop the lot as far as I'm concerned. Sky television and the premier league when it came into operation at the end of the 80's, had already snatched televising of football games at a bargain price, and weren't ever going to let go of their major money-spinner. Having the gall to sell, 'highlights', to the BBC, at what is no doubt a ridiculous price for what it is. There was a time when those who were behind these sports would fall over themselves to get on TV, but that before the big money men, i.e. Murdoch and co. got in on it, offering more than the BBC were ever going to give them to show live matches. And, it just burgeoned from then on, selling the rights worldwide to any and all who wanted them, and with it being a, 'sellers market', they could charge whatever the hell they liked, knowing they'd never refuse. There's far too much money involved, now.

The BBC don't care who broadcast the games as the people watching have to pay them for permission to watch anyway via the TV License. Sky pay over a Billion a year IIRC for their Premier League games, so the BBC playing £200 million for several years of highlights is a bargain in comparison, especially since as I said they get paid for the permission to watch those matches on Sky.

Don’t count on the BBC getting it any cheaper even if there isn’t any other interest . Do you think they are bright enough not to offer more for the next contract , they like wasting money . As a public sector broadcaster they could have not bothered to tender as it was free to air and the commercial stations would have gobbled it up in the past . Thus the public would have got their football highlights ( not on BBC ) and Aunty could have spent the money saved on more worthy broadcasting projects such as Lord Reith envisaged and we would never have had to suffer Lineker .

Who wants to pay to watch highlights? Even the TV channels dedicated to specific football clubs don’t provide live commentary of the matches, neither home or away, of the teams that they are dedicated to, instead preferring to show it after it’s finished - yet have the cheek to charge an amount of money that lets fans think that they do provide live commentary - my second youngest sister - a dyed-in-the-wool Middlesbrough supporter - paid a substantial sum of money to Boro TV in the belief that they would be providing live commentary of even the away matches - even if it meant taking a feed from the home team’s television channel - on this occasion, they were at home to some other team - my sister put on her Boro strip, made herself some snacks and got some booze in and settled down to watch the live commentary that she’d paid good money for - only for the channel to not go over live to the ground and just played music all the time - after about half an hour with no sign of them going over there, she phoned Boro TV and asked where the match was - only to be told that they don’t broadcast the match live or even have reports from the ground - they recorded it and played it back later - she cancelled her subscription!

MOTD is rubbish & pointless as they only show 3-5 minutes of every game, the opinions are extremely bias in the favour of the big team's

I have never understood why people think that particular sports MUST be free to air. It should be a commercial decision for the sport associations and TV companies.

£3 a week for a wheen of tv and radio stations , all with no fkn adverts , specially that radio which I listen to more than watch telly . I know all their faults and couldn't give a toss , they're still the best at what they do , and we know you all still watch it .

Me personally certainly don't watch any tv. I haven't even attempted to switch the box on since around early April 2020 when I worked out every news channel was telling us lies about the C19. I find my entertainment elsewhere.

I love BBC1 BBC2 and BBC4 plus i listen to BBC radio2 and radio4 and it costs me £14/month, GREAT value for money. Not quite sure what you want from a Broadcaster.
