Kolakowski on endless trial. The interviewer never shows himself, he is not interested in the nuances of Polish history and the master's views on it, instead pushing for the simplified agenda of the horrors of communism. This is not doing justice to the very fine and subtle thinker that Kolakowski was.

I remember Kolakowski from around 1983 when his magnum opus "Currents of marxism" (?) was en vogue. Maybe he was a great intellectual but he certainly is not a great speaker: quite boring to listen to, his frequent coughing directs the attention away from what he is saying, and his English vocabulary is not what you might expect from an Oxford professor, even when English is not his first language. But maybe it's just his pronunciation; I couldn't listen to a two-hour lecture by him.
