We were so lucky to have watched this at its first airing. My baby daughter in my arms, feeding her the bed time bottle, this song came on. It instantly captured us.. My daughter stopped feeding, she was mesmerised. We we're absolutely glued into every single note. Her first happy tears came from her baby eyes as she smiled her biggest smile upto that date. This song right here, this version was played every day and at every bedtime, she would not sleep without it. To this day when I put it on she stops and soaks it in. This song always has a place in our home, so grateful to Lisa and loah for producing such an elegant and beautiful performance!!

also hats off to the sound engineers on this, it is GORGEOUS to listen to. a top drawer record of how that room sounded. best 58 I've ever heard! and the detail on Lisa's vocal and well, everything is absolutely stellar. killer mic placement, killer processing, killer mix. all of course backed by a killer performance which makes life a little easier.

You can get away with a 58 on an alto... once you get up into the upper register, you're just making trouble for yourself, but down where she was you're fine. I was impressed by the guitar sound, myself. There was a LOT of help going on in the processing... but it ended up awesome, so no complaints from me.

Make a grown man cry, why don't you. I watched a vocal coach's review of this performance yesterday, and needed to hear it again all the way through without interruption. Today I listened to her live album. It also brought tears to my eyes, but they were running down my face as I watched this. It's ironic, seeing as how they both look so happy in this video. Anyway, Lisa Hannigan has a new fan in me. She has a hauntingly beautiful voice that I can feel her soul reverberating through. Should she ever come to my part of the world, I'll jump at the chance to see her perform live. ♥️

@JAYDUBYAH29 4 жыл бұрын
@@guitar864 name 3 songs that play with mixing minor and major tonalities (meaning on the same key center of course) in both the melody and harmony like this! I disagree with you categorically. This song is a delicate and powerful beautiful puzzle of creativity and technical innovation - I dare say their joyful giggles at the end reflect the sense of having discovered and captured something so special and outside of songwriting in almost any genre. Does jazz change keys and flip major and minor? Sure, but not quite like this that I have ever heard. Does blues slide between major and minor? Yeah but again in a very specific and now derivative way..... this ain’t that. Find a single pop song or folk song that covers similar harmonic ground if you can and let us know.
@guitar864
@guitar864 4 жыл бұрын
@@JAYDUBYAH29 You're just demonstrating a complete ignorance to music theory. She is singing a run within the Aeolian scale finishing on the Major 3rd - what the hell is ground breaking about that? Nothing. That is in, quite literally, almost every blues song you've ever heard. This Pedal Point, Minor to Major modulation is exceedingly basic and has been used since the 1700s - it's literally laughable that you pose new ground has been broken. They've used it to great effect, but it's nothing special. Do some research on Pedal Point - this is as basic as it gets kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIW5kn-PjrmDfLs

Fell in love with Lisa Hannigan when she was with Damien Rice. I thought "what is she doing with him?" (love him, too, btw. Just thought she could do well on her own). Her voice cuts through my depression. Even when it is dark, she delivers with a smile. That is something I watch. How somebody singing delivers every note. For her, it is effortless. Thanks, Lisa, for keeping me "sane" at 48. I "used" to sing. I could harmonize to ANYTHING. Now, not so much. I'm a nurse and Life calls.....
