I had been waiting for this release for the whole year. Bought it and was stunned by the quality. Then one night I was removing the record after playback and I was not careful enough and dropped it on the spindle, making a gashing mark on the track "I've been loving you too long" of all tracks! I had to buy a second copy! I'd say this is one of my top records this year.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that Miguel.

@ Thank you. But nonetheless very happy with the (second!) record as well. It is my favorite Otis Redding album.

Bit of a no brainer after Dave has spoken! Listening to coupla Otis tunes as a kid 11 years old got me hooked on rock n roll music, I binge watched the same clips of him on VHS from Montrey Pop to such satisfaction (I got mine :) Can't wait to hear this after the review and comments. Many thanks Sir as always

Thanks again Dave for doing the work here. Even though it's not a full shoot-out, we can tell you know quite a bit about its different iterations. I'm going to keep it short because this type of release itches me to the worst level... Here are my 2 cents: Why in the world would they re-release the same master AP did in 2016, especially when they STILL have it in stock + can be found for 45$ on Discogs?! Couldn't they use this opportunity to do a 2x45 rpm mono master since it doesn't exist? Anyway, we're lucky to live in a World where we can get a cheap but well done AAA mono as we speak (the clear Atlantic 75). (As you probably know, it's a single release from the 2017 Rhino box which orginally followed the 2015 RSD which - cleverly - bundled the stereo & mono together) Since they are all pressed by Record Industry on a basic or colored 33rpm, with potential QC issues, there was room for improvement. So, to me, it's a wasted opportunity. Cheers! Cedric PS: have you managed to compare those recent mono pressings to your OG? And to this 'new' stereo? I would be very curious to hear your opinion.

Hi, thanks so much for your feedback. To be honest the 2016 release of this passed me by... I wasn't aware but it clearly is the same thing (and as you say you can still buy it, for the same money as the new 'Atlantic 75 version). My comments relating the the release obviously remain: it's a very good sounding record. I would be somewhat interested in hearing a new mono cut, but then again I have a decent original in mono (and I do use a mono cartridge which I'd not use on a modern mono cut). What I find interesting is how this stereo release (and obviously the 2016 pressing of the same) is how well Kevin Gray has judged this stereo cut and made something highly enjoyable, probably even more enjoyable than my original.

Look forward to your review of the Yes album Sir 😊 I love how you describe the Otis album as “essential” - can’t get more definitive than this!

I will be listening ti the Yes soon (sadly it was warped - all too common with RSD releases- and is currently in my flattener. Hope to be listening to it soon.

The title of this video should read,THE 1965 UK LONDON ORIGINAL.

LOL.

I got the label wrong. It should be London Atlantic. Pressed by DECCA RECORDS. They ALWAYS sound great even when they look beat up.

Great video Dave, but it's left me with a big concern. Otis Blue is also my favourlite Otis album and I think I have most if not all of his. It is also one of my top two 60s soul albums across all of the many many 60s soul albums I have. Like you I have always preferred Otis Blue in mono and despite having a couple of stereo copies. I really find that hard panned stereo to be a significant distraction. I guess if I had a mono butto on my amp then it'd be an easy fix. So is this A75 soooooo much better than a good mono? I mean the vocals are the biggest issue and the most emotional of the whole performance and I'm less worried about the rest of the band (sorry guys). I've always felt on a good mono cut that Otis is there in your room with you and I don't feel it on the stereo mixes I've so far heard. Then again it is Kevin Gray at the controls....... Oh dear, what to do, what to do.
@DaveDenyerАй бұрын
Hi Ian, as I say in the video, I too would normally opt for the mono of an album like this, but this sounds SO good, that the L-R stereo actually seems to enhance the enjoyment.

@@DaveDenyer Ok Dave, I will think it over. Then it''ll probably have to go on my list though until I take delivery of the other stuff which should arrive in the next few days.
