Very true. There has been no new youth culture movement in the UK since Brit-pop in the mid 90s. Consequently, there has been nothing to drive music in a new direction. Just the cynical money makers who only want to sell the same sound year after year.

Those were the days, my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way (1968, Mary Hopkin) Wenn die alten Leute sagten, früher war alles besser, haben wir gelacht. What a great reminder of the very start of my journey with music firmly in the driving seat. I was 14 in 1972 and bought many of these as singles. It's great music for a 14 year old. I tried to start a group and dreamed of being on Top of the Pops. The closest I got to earning money from music was working at a food and drinks counter at a stadium during concerts of mega groups. Instead of being a guy who played in stadiums, I was the guy who sold the hamburgers and coke.

Neil Reid was from Motherwell god help us. Eve Graham , the brunette in The New Seekers was from Perth (the Scottish one that is). Crazy Horses by the Osmonds makes me feel ill.
