Great interview Otis, love your work and your preservation of the story. Equal in gravity as the Kennedy assassination or the fist steps on the moon, I remember the gray Monday morning on a school bus in Sumner, Washington, when my cortex connected with the “normal noises” of “Even the Losers” at 7:03 am. Tom Petty’s approachable genius will be forever remembered. He was more than a musician. He was transcendent, and listening to his music makes us closer to something intangible that Tom could pull out of thin air. The secret to it all. It was his and he knew it, but he was kind enough to share it with the rest of us. Again, great interview, great stories. Thank you for this.

Well that was pretty excellent, Otis. As a big, old, long-time fan of Tom Petty I found the last part especially poignant. Saw Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers in ‘77 or ‘79. Absolutely one of the greatest, most lick-ass shows I’ve ever seen. Especially that mid-set bit when they’d break into their Brit Invasion covers. I was always pissed at Memphis local radio for not playing Tom & band’s 1st single “American Girl”. Only radio jock in Memphopolous who believed in them was WMC-FM’s Jon Scott who later wound up handling promotion for Tom & The Heartbreakers & at Tom’s behest moved out to L.A. to be near them. Loved this interview. Absolutely loved it!

Driving home from NYC after seeing Billy Joel at the Garden my brother in law and I vowed to see Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. I don’t think it was 2 weeks later when my niece called my cell at work to tell me Tom Petty had died. To top it off I still haven’t seen Bruce.

I’ve seen thousands of concerts since the 70s, & people kept telling me that I needed to see Springsteen. Finally got to about 7 years ago. And it was an experience of a lifetime. You just cannot believe the energy - it’s like no other on earth. There’s two concerts that are worth whatever it takes to get into, one is Springsteen’s & the other is Garth’s.

I read an article once where a music writer talked about Tom Petty's coffee. He would have his caterers make it to his specifications for parties and there was one night when it was extra good. So he asked the caterer what was up and watched him make it. Apparently, he was leveling the scoops when he made it so from then on Petty changed the way he and his staff made it and also leveled the scoops.

Otis, I enjoyed listening to the story that Mark Fain shared about Chris and Tom. I hadnt heard the album Bidin My Time, so I had to pull it up and listen to it. Well, needless to say, I enjoyed it. This was a reflection of music back to the 60s/70s, and you could deffinitely hear the influence of the Byrds and Roger McGuinn's playing, one of my favorite cuts was Bells of Rhymney, which had been covered by Pete Seeger, the Byrds, and John Denver just to name a couple and honestly I didnt remember it, but what a beautiful song. Thank you for sharing this with us!

I have been watching/enjoying your channel for a while now and think what you are doing is amazing because you let the interviewee talk and you let them talk and you keep them talking with no judgment or putting your knowledge to use in a adversarial way and it is living history what you are documenting and you are part of it whether you like it or not because you are so good at what you do and you know who would be in my opinion the ultimate interviewee for you would be Mal Evans but unfortunately that is impossible but Bobby Whitlock and Coco Carmel also have an awesome channel and they talk about a lot of the Beatle circles and I texted him asking if Mal Evans was around and he responded and said yes but on their channel they never brought him up to my chagrin but when Allen Klein started chopping heads at Apple the Beatles told Alan Klein you can fire anybody except for Niel and Mal and the only place on the interwebs that I have heard anybody speak of Mal is that from redheaded guy you met/interviewed that worked for the Beatles ad he tells an excellent story himself ( and I would love to hear more of his story because he worked for a lot of people ) but I can’t remember his name - please keep doing what it is that you do
