What does it mean about hair cells if the oae’s are present but abnormal ??
@InteracousticsTV

Hi Josh, "If the recorded OAE meets the SNR and other criteria for detection, but falls outside the normal range, it should be categorized as present, but abnormal." Source: www.interacoustics.com/academy/oae-training/otoacoustic-emissions Best, Shane

yes hello thank you.., can a flat tympanogram type b.., cause a refer oae..??? and will it cause a hearing loss..?? pls reply...
@InteracousticsTV
@InteracousticsTV 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, a flat / type B tympanogram can cause a hearing loss and can lead to refer OAE results, but this is not always the case. Furthermore, if there is an abnormal tympanogram, without further diagnostic investigations, it is not possible to determine that this is the only or definitive cause of the refer OAE results - it is possible to have two or more causes. If you want to learn more about tympanometry please visit www.interacoustics.com/academy , where you will find a large selection of resources on all things audiology and balance :) .

And sencind thing is in the DPOAE response graph , you said we have to analyse the frequency between f1and f2 that is the overlapping area . Then why the OAE is not in the range between f1 and f2? Why it is away from the overlapping area ?
@InteracousticsTV
@InteracousticsTV 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Vijaya, Thanks for asking: It has been proven in the literature that the ratio between f1 and f2 should be around 1.2 this is why we choose 818 Hz as the f1 frequency. With the f1 and f2 values now decided we can make the calculation. So 2f1-f2 = 1836-1000 = 636 Hz. What you see in the software is 635 Hz. This is because whenever an OAE system coverts from the time domain to the frequency domain the system is bound by both physical and practical choices. The important thing to note here is that this although there is a difference of 1 Hz, there aren’t any clinical consequences related to this. We hope this makes sense to you :) Have a great day. Br. How much of the initial responses of TEOAE's should be removed to avoid stimulus artifact?
@InteracousticsTV

Thank you for your interest. The Interacoustics TEOAE recording window is set to begin at 4ms in order to avoid recording the stimulus and any artifact that follows.

Is it possible somehow to convert DP-gram to tone audiogram for fitting hearing aids or is this impossible?
@InteracousticsTV
@InteracousticsTV 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your interest. Even though there is no exact link established between the non-presence of OAEs and hearing loss in terms of the audiogram, Clinical DPOAEs can serve as an early indication of a hearing loss.

Sir I want to ask you questions..Sir i have done DPOAE screening test..on the report showing DPOAE analysis, In right ear there is six frequency F2, Hz has written on report..Out of six frequency there is showing 2 OAE has tick mark ☑️ on 2 frequency out of six frequency and other 4 are frequency are OAE absent ❌..so, can you tell me what is mean that report it mean my hearing is normal or hearing loss..
@InteracousticsTV
@InteracousticsTV 2 жыл бұрын
Please contact your health care provider for personal health care questions. Speaking generally of OAE testing, then different clinics/countries use different numbers of frequency bands to determine a pass or refer. Some clinics accept 2 bands, but some require 3 to mean a pass. However, a pass on OAE testing does not mean normal hearing, and a refer does not mean a hearing loss - this is just a screening test and only assesses the cochlear function.

hello.., if a child gets a refer result from the oae test..,? can the abr determine why the oae got a refer result..??? can the abr test show a temporary hearing loss..?? like wax, fluid, congestion..??? or a permanent hearing loss.?? from the cochlea.??? thank you... for reply..
@InteracousticsTV
@InteracousticsTV 3 жыл бұрын
Hello. Thank you for your interest. This is an answer for you from one of our Interacoustics Academy Trainers: " The ABR test allows the clinician to determine the hearing levels. If there is a sensorineural hearing loss from the cochlea, bone conduction ABR results can identify this. ABR results (both air conduction and bone conduction) in combination with middle ear function testing such as tympanometry can help determine information about the status of the middle ear. Additional OAE testing can also add information to the test battery to help the clinician draw conclusions. However, sometimes the cause of the OAE refer results can be temporary and if this has resolved by the point that ABR testing is performed, then it may not be possible to establish what the cause was."

My child's DPOAE REPOT-- "shows REFER and indicates that the outer hair cells are not functioning properly well on both ears". He is just of 95 days. Does it mean my child will suffer a complete deafness or is there any chance of recovery in hearing ability? Please give me an answer.

Suprakash Mandal DPOAE’s can result In a refer for many reasons other that dysfunctional outer hair cells . These results are often only one part of a comprehensive diagnostic auditory evaluation . I hope you have taken your child for followup testing .

sir..what does it meant by eliminating the reflexes..? here,what does that reflexes mean? @7.05 min
@InteracousticsTV
@InteracousticsTV 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your interest. The presenter is referring to unwanted reflections of the stimulus off all the surfaces that the stimulus meets (e.g. the tympanic membrane, the ossicles) and how it is possible to eliminate these reflections so that the OAE measurement is not contaminated by them. This is different to acoustic reflexes. I hope this answers your question.

My child is 4 months old His TEOAE of both ears says REFER Does that mean he has hearing loss What to do now If he has hearing loss., what could be the prognosis Please tell me Im so worried
@MrSorrowking
@MrSorrowking 4 жыл бұрын
Hey there! When it says "refer" it means that you have to do some other tests now, because this very test shows that there could be a problem in the haircells in the cochlea. It is very important to do all the other tests (Brainstem Evoked Audiometry for instantce) to show where exactly is the problem and how can you help your child according to the damage he's got. It is highly likely your child will have a hearing loss greater than 20 dB, but with this test alone we cant say how much it is, and what kind of a damage it is. I recommend you do all the necessary tests done (refer to an Ear Nose and Throat doctor or an Audiologist) because hearing is the basis of speech development. Doing this early is important for your child to have the best opportunities and the best possible outcome, coz if not treated early on, it could have a huge impact on his language, cognitive and social skills later on. I know it is hard, but hang in there, there's many ways for your child to have an amazing life, even if there's some hearing loss. I wish you luck and all the best!

Thank you for your question. When a baby's OAE results are REFER, it is essential that you take your child for a diagnostic hearing test such as ABR. The OAE is a screening test only and no conclusions can be made about your child's hearing at this stage. There are many reasons why the OAE results can be REFER. This does not necessarily mean there is a hearing loss, however it is a possibility and this is why it is important to get some more in depth testing in order to get you the answers you need. Please speak to your local audiology service for more advice on your next steps. It is understandable that you are concerned and we hope you can arrange an appointment soon.

I don't understand why have you said if f2 is 1000hz then f1 will be 818hz nd the actual freq. Will become 635 hz ?? As 2f1-f2 is the formulae .
@InteracousticsTV
@InteracousticsTV 6 жыл бұрын
The reason why we do not search for the OAE in the overlapping area is that there is a risk that this could be contaminated by stimulus artefact. We therefore need to look in a different area and the 2f1-f2 frequency is the area with the largest distortion product and this is why we look there.
